    Fellow Unbelievers,

2 years after it passed, this 2021 law in Scotland is now in full effect in what was once home of Thomas Paine, Adam Smith, and The Scottish Enlightenment:

Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021
    https://www.legislation.gov.uk/asp/2021/14/part/3

It criminalizes the nebulously-defined act of “stirring up hatred” and while extending no protections to cis-gendered men and women, does consider “Transgendered” to be a special protected class, as well as “religion or, in the case of a social or cultural group, perceived religious affiliation.”. And the punishment could be imprisonment for 7 years!

Communicating threats to inflict bodily harm is already outlawed in any civilized nation and apply to all, so this addendum of “stirring up hatred” is a step too far into the realm of criminalizing political, cultural, philosophical, religious, and even scientific speech and expression!

These songs popularized by Jim Stafford are going to be real problematic in the Scottish People’s Republic. “Assuming the gender” is a’poppin’ with these ditties!

    The Drunk Scotsman

    😁

    Jim Staffard–My Girl Bill

    😁

Let’s hope the Scots blast these songs on the bagpipe and boom-box and that this law and the ones who passed it get laughed out of the bonny crags and moors of Scotland!

I am conflicted on this. Of course we should respect transsexual people. On one hand, you have Hitler using his “free” but violent hateful antisemitic speech to literally incite a word-war that led to killing millions and nuclear bombings. Sure. That was criminal.

However, intentionally talking about a transwoman as being “male” or saying “his penis” instead of “her penis” does not constitute a crime in my opinion. You can call this cis male a girl all you want…and I’ll be just fine.

Seems like a policing nightmare as well.

Hi! I’d rather stir up unconditional love instead.

    Robert,

Hitler’s Nazi Germany was a product of hundreds of years of steeping and indoctrination in Irrationality, Self-Sacrifice, and blind obedience to the State, of which Antisemitism and Racism were one part.

And the Nazis were State actors, which are not stopped by giving the State greater power.

But, yes, you are right about the Transgender end of this. No one should be made criminal over misgendering someone, especially infants who are easy to mistake and I do it all the time at my job dealing with customers with infants. They just gently correct me, I use the right term, and all is right with the world.

No one should be made criminal for not using second-person pronouns when the person is right in front of you. It makes no sense to to do that. When a person is in front of you, the pronoun to use is “you,” which is, incidentally, gender-neutral. When a person is not in front of you, that person has no say on what is said about them anyway and you have no say over what the other person says about you either. 😁

Mere acting or parody should not be made criminal or the whole Monty Python franchise is gone, not to mention the U.S. favorites The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Bosom Buddies, and The Kids in the Hall.

And no one should be made criminal over even outright dislike or prejudice, even though that is irrational. Only actual threats and incitement to violence should be subject to prosecution. That would be much easier if city District Attorneys showed some sense and back-bone.

    RichRaelian,

Hi! I’d rather stir up unconditional love instead.

I don’t think such a thing exists, Rich, but you’re welcome to try. And you can do it better when you and every other person are free to speak and express yourself. 🗣️🗽😁

    Fellow Unbelievers,

Just as bad money drives out good money, so also unjust laws that violate Individual Rights drive out enforcement of just laws that uphold these rights. Nobody can say they didn’t see this coming:

Hate crime complaints to Scottish police set to outnumber total for all other offences
Front-line officers warn that they cannot cope with surge after 8,000 reports in first week after new law

Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling effectively yanked the teeth out of the law when she dared authorities to arrest her and they didn’t rise to the occasion:

‘Harry Potter’ author J.K. Rowling will not be charged for anti-trans comments amid new Scotland law

Scotland really needs to repeal this national embarrassment and get back to cleaning it’s streets of actual dangerous criminals,
