    Jake,

I might add to your rules to avoid poppy seed or everything bagels with poppy seeds if you’re taking a drug test for a new job. They can trigger a false positive on the test. Other than that, all bagels are wonderful.

You are correct about the relationship between Chinese and Jews. Chang Kai-shek took in Jewish refugees in Nationalist China during World War II. (Ironically and humorously enough, though Militarist Japan was allied with Nazi Germany, Japan even took in Jewish refugees. The “Honorary Aryans” play trick on Der Führer! 😁)

Another big reason for the friendly relationship between Chinese and Jews was alluded to in the screenplay A Christmas Story Live.

Chinese restaurants often did and do remain open on Christmas Day and serve as a refuge from alienation experienced by Jews in a majority Christian America.

In the screenplay version of A Christmas Story Live, Ralphie’s family sees Schwartz’ family at the restaurant and everybody ate the “Chinese Turkey” of freshly-beheaded Peking Duck.

Sunni and Shia & onomatopoeia. The bagelic circle of life.

i have heard about that peculiar water in NY city. I have it from good sources in my best Washington Irving that the water used to make those apex bagels is drawn from the piscatorial and pristine waters of the East river. Additionally, the proximity to the Catskills is in part a cause of the world’s finest.

Do not malign or assign anything negative to poppy seed bagels. My faves. Got nothing bad to say about onion or everything. Even raisin and cinammon with its degradation of the bagel blood has its place although it ought not be allowed in the sanhedrin.

I ought to write a book OWED TO A BAGEL and then a poem, ODE TO A BAGEL. Imagine if the Arabs and Jews would just sit down together and eat bagels and syrian bread. The table top filled with cream cheese and humus.

I didn’t know about Japanese helping Jews. Live and believe. Learn and deceive.

Not knocking poppy seed or everything bagels categorically, just saying that temporary abstinence may be necessary if you want a better job to buy more bagels. You can eat them when you get the job and if they don’t make regular tests and if you make no worker’s comp claims.

And cinnamon degradation of the bagel blood is your gain for your blood sugar and that’s all that matters. The Sanhedrin doesn’t know what it’s missing in the bodily temple. 😋

    Reg,

Here’s hoping you and your friends stayed safe in the midst of the riots in Dublin. Instead of destroying their own streets and stores, Irish need to direct their anger at Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and his Government. They are delusional elites who restrict how Irish citizens protect themselves, who want to restrict freedom of expression of Irish citizens, and who dismiss the threat of Islamofascist terrorists:

Enco, ya ever hear or read the Jewish/Goyish schtick? Ya know, questions asking to identify which item is Jewish and which is non. Black Cherry soda? Jewish Crackers and cheese? goyish. Tits? goyish Titties? Jewish.

So raisin/cinnamon is goyish. Not that there is anything wrong with that. There is a transformation from the purity of a real Jewish bagel to a base and tarnished raisin/cinnamon. It is almost a dessert. In fact if ya butter it and add sugar and toast it really is a dessert. And that is fine. But it is not the comfort one derives from a perfect poppy bagel to start one’s day.

Allow me to digress. When i was a kid in college i went to Florida for spring break. Was i trying to get laid? Going to the beach? Getting hammered? Hell no. I was at the track. And i literally lost 12 straight photo finishes, several of em for good money. And then on the last day of gambling a tight photo that would mean the difference between winning about two thousand and recovering my 1000 gambling stake plus a 1000 profit. I really thought i had the photo won but the tension grew as i waited for the numbers to be posted. The wrong number was on the totalisator board in first place. I was furious. Without thinking i tightened my calf muscle so hard that i pulled a muscle. Next morning depressed and with only enough money to buy a few poppy bagels that i stashed for the flight home i felt a comfort ensconced in the radiating goodness of poppy bagels. Did not even have butter for em let alone cream cheese. But they were good. Got off the plane and limped through the airport finally greeted by my dad who asked, “what the hell happened to you?” I limped away a bit dispirited but knowing i would live to fight another day bagels by my side to give me strength.

    Jake,

Of course, a lot of things that pass as Jewish nowadays would be phooey-ed and hand-waved by the Ultra-Orthodox.

Like a Corned Beef and Swiss sandwich, mixing meat and milk? With German Sauerkraut and Russian Dressing? Toasted in a deli on a Saturday Afternoon? 🥩🥛🇩🇪 🇷🇺

Or the whole thing with Jews and Chinese cuisine. Would that include pork-fried rice or pork egg rolls? Or spare ribs from the buffet? Or shrimp, octopus, and squid on the Mainland? ㊗️🐷🦐🐙🦑

Some Southern Jews use Kentucky Fried Chicken, hardtack bread, and collard greens in the Passover Seder. Shalom, Ya’ll! ✡️🍗🍞🥬🤠

And almost everything is up for grabs in a survival scenario, of which Jews have had more than their share.

I imagine poppy seeds can be quite the analgesic for losing streaks at the track, but they could be the source of loss for earning the money to bet, so I put the source of money first. Your miles may vary.

Enco i don’t eat meat any longer. But i do miss Jewish deli. Corned beef, brisket, tongue sandwiches on rye bread. Yum! As to whether Jews follow dietary laws? Only the nuts do. Or the ones who are keeping the peace/perpetuating Jewish culture. Dairy and meat? Who cares? Squid for a Yid? Put on the lid.

I think we all enjoy trying different ethnic foods. It is so cool going to an ethnic restaurant and trying stuff that is new to you.

I was wrong. I thought that this thread had died. I guess not.
