Just FYI, relevant to all groups:
The Home page of a group is presented first, by default, which only shows us a long list in reverse chronological order of every post made in every forum.
So upon first arrival to the group’s Home page, you should click on the Forum button to see the list of all topics.

Artificial Intelligence 1 year agoI agree emotions do play a role in morality because we are not Vulcans. Much of the time suppression of emotions leads to the best moral decisions, however for those who only make good choices for recognition or some other form of payback you might say the ends justify the means. It is still weak morality, IMHO.

I think the task is to come up with alternatives to utilitarianism, consequentialism etc., which are an intuitive way in but don’t actually really go anywhere in the real world. A good alternative is morality as collaboration – both what happens within the collaboration, and its goal, are subjects for morality. What is nee…[Read more]

All three together is ideal.

The Categorical Imperative could be considered a foundational principle of morality. Artificial Intelligence 1 year agoThe Categorical Imperative could be considered a foundational principle of morality. It is grounded in the belief that moral actions must be guided by rationality and universalizable principles, rather than emotions or consequences. I don’t really see what it wrong with that. It emphasizes the inherent dignity of every individual. Moral actions a…[Read more]

Artificial Intelligence 1 year agoAn hour-long video created by AI and if one defines creativity in terms of giving you a plethora of gorgeous imagery you’ve never seen or imagined before, this AI is more creative than any human visual artist.
“But what does it mean? When human artists create art, it’s meaningful.” My reply is Jackson Pollock? Mondrian? Sometimes visual art is…[Read more]

Artificial Intelligence 1 year agoIt reads like a machine….because it is a machine. TBH, when I debate anything with it, I sometimes have to remind myself of that fact.
The basics of human morality are easy to understand and I think the presentation here is accurate. Yes, we can argue about individual cases and how different groups treat various scenarios but morality is…[Read more]

Artificial Intelligence 1 year agoThe motivation for people’s sense of responsibility to comply with moral norms and behave morally arises from a complex interplay of psychological, social, and cultural factors. Below are some key motivators:
1. Empathy and Compassion
Innate Response: Humans are biologically wired for empathy, allowing them to feel the emotions of o…[Read more]

Artificial Intelligence 1 year agoHere is where I am at with Chatgpt at the moment. My comment first:
The term ‘dark matter’ is a problem for me. I think “unobserved gravitational effects” might be a better term. This could be a gravitational anomaly caused by black holes.
Gravity (relational gravity) is not an independent Force. It is an emergent phenomenon arising from the int…[Read more]

Artificial Intelligence 1 year agoThe pseudoscience/apologist crowd always has so much to say about postulations in physics. If you gave them a simple quiz to calculate the weight of a 1 earth-pound brick sitting on the Martian surface, or magnetic field strength and direction created by a given energized coil for example, how many could do it? How many would even know where to start?
