Hey, I have a question for the group – are there any arguments against equal rights and respect for gay people that aren’t religious? (IMHO saying it’s “unnatural” doesn’t count, because if it were actually unnatural there wouldn’t be any of us right here smack in the middle of nature.)

There are no rational arguments of course but humans are not generally rational. Gays are different than the majority and minority groups have always been oppressed. Religion came along and simply provides the pseudo rationality to justify the oppression.
You’re right, rationality isn’t very relevant to people for whom the only part of an argument that matters is the conclusion they want. I love Stephen Fry’s comment:

There is the (pretty weak, imo) argument that anal sex has a higher risk of spreading disease.
There’s also the argument that if gay men are repressed, they are more likely to have children and pass on their (higher average intelligence) genes.
All in all, pretty weak arguments when put against equal/human rights.
That second one’s a doozy; never heard it before.
It’s one of the reasons Milo Yiannopolis is opposed to same-sex marriage despite being gay himself.
He’s a legend in his own mind.
