Are Neanderthals and Homo sapiens the same species?
Obviously since many of us have Neanderthal markers, that means that interbreeding yields fertile offspring. So how do we define species ?
A species (pl. species) is often defined as the largest group of organisms in which any two individuals of the appropriate sexes or mating types can produce fertile offspring.
December 31, 2023 at 6:37 pm #52058Freethinking article?
Shallow Hal and how. No mention of free will. No mention of confirmation bias. Absolutely unattainable by humans albeit a lovely notion. Atheists tend to have their own mythology.
January 1, 2024 at 4:58 am #52061Reg,
Christians are mad that a Christian magazine (correctly) said Jesus was Asian.
So the Spoke-Into-Being/Flat-Earth/Holes-In-The-Firmament Dome/Light-Before-The-Sun/Animals-Before-Plants/Dust-Man/Rib-Woman/Blood Brothers/Mystery-Spouses Creationists are also pig-ignorant on Geography and Genetics?
Why am I not surprised?
If you ever encounter anyone who actually debates the lineage and identity of Jesus Christ just say: “This is what Jesus looked like” then hold up a solid white or solid black poster board, or both, whichever is the most starkly empty for your audience.
Happy New Year, Fellow Unbelievers!

I sometimes hold up a blank sheet of A4 (Letter) to show the religious beliefs of atheists on one side and a portrait of (their) God on the reverse. I follow up by suggesting that they hold onto it for a few days to reflect upon. It has actually helped a few people shake off their delusion!
Right, that’s one more New Years Resolution for us all 🙂
January 1, 2024 at 5:39 pm #52065Reg,
I sometimes hold up a blank sheet of A4 (Letter) to show the religious beliefs of atheists on one side and a portrait of (their) God on the reverse. I follow up by suggesting that they hold onto it for a few days to reflect upon. It has actually helped a few people shake off their delusion!
Ackshuyally, Buddhism, Jainism, Taoism, and Confucianism are Non-Theistic but believe in other Supernatural entities and realms, so they would be considered Non-Theistic Religions.
So you may want to modify your performance by saying: “These are the religious beliefs of Naturalist and Humanist Atheists” or “These are the number of religious beliefs that are true.”
But yes, the blank sheet or poster paper is a wonderful tool of Atheist activism. If you are using them as flyers, the only printing is for the descriptor. If you are using them in person, there’s no printing at all. So you are helping save the Earth in more ways than one. ♻️
The Friendly Atheist story on the Zelig Jesus reminds me of my favorite episode of The Jerry Springer Show, when he had members of The Ku Klux Klan and The Black Hebrew Israelites together on stage.
The Ku Klux Klansmen had on their trademark robes and hoods, but they were made of the shiniest silk and had all the colors of the Rainbow. It was a literal White Pride Parade!
The Black Hebrew Israelites came out dressed like Earth, Wind & Fire had a head-on collision with Ali Baba and The 40 Thieves. They really should give their Grandmama’s tablecloths back!
And both of these were yelling non-stop about how God was on their side and that God said that they were The Master Race…and they were both citing the same King James Version of The Holy Bible in defense of their respective superiority!
🙂🙃😁😃😄😆😅😂🤣
Here’s a small inteoductory snippet, which was before the full entourage of both hoardes came out:
One really good thing about Atheism is that it doesn’t have to involve fashion damage. 😉

January 1, 2024 at 8:52 pm #52067Jesus would be spinning in his grave if he had to listen to those guys! I always enjoy listening to the religious argue among themselves over their theologies.
Jerry! Jerry!Schism! Schism! Schism! When I see the JW’s approaching my house I ‘accidentally’ leave a copy of the Book of Moron (sic) on the coffee table.
I guess you know the Emo Philips joke?
Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, “Don’t do it!” He said, “Nobody loves me.” I said, “God loves you. Do you believe in God?”
He said, “Yes.” I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?” He said, “A Christian.” I said, “Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?” He said, “Protestant.” I said, “Me, too! What franchise?” He said, “Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?” He said, “Northern Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?”
He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region.” I said, “Me, too!”
Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912.” I said, “Die, heretic!” And I pushed him over.
January 1, 2024 at 8:57 pm #52068Some more Emo jokes:
· When I was a kid, I used to pray every night for a new bike. Then I realised, the Lord doesn’t work that way. So I just stole one and asked Him to forgive me … and I got it!
· So I’m at the wailing wall, standing there like a moron, with my harpoon.”
· A Mormon told me that they don’t drink coffee. I said, “A cup of coffee every day gives you wonderful benefits.” He said, “Like what?” I said, “Well, it keeps you from being Mormon …”
· I’m not Catholic, but I gave up picking my belly button for lint.
January 2, 2024 at 4:15 am #52069I have to admit that I don’t think of the Eastern Mediterranean countries as Asian. I think of them as Middle Eastern countries. Now, you can say “Eastern” really means “Asian,” but I don’t think of it that way.
I see this as one of those things people can define for themselves.
January 3, 2024 at 12:32 am #52073vituperation – good word Claudine Gay. I was trying to recall it.
January 3, 2024 at 2:07 am #52074I wouldn’t exactly characterise, as a whole, the hundreds of millions of atheists in China, as free thinkers. Atheism does not equal Western, Educated, Sceptical, Freethinking Humanism.

2 down, 1 to go. Bad scholarship as well. Seems so much goes back to Stanford one way or another.
January 3, 2024 at 5:54 am #52076Reminds me of the time when my cousin with whom i began a law practice lost his shit, “I don’t care for your vituperative rebuttal you contumacious fool!”
Funnier still was the time i was held up in court and got back too late to see a scheduled apptment. Cousin took the appointment. Walked into the office and my client, a prosyletizing asshole who was always hustling JC, and cousin were screaming at each other top of their lungs in an argument about whether religion was a positive influence on civilization. Amazingly the client stuck with us.
