Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorWhen I hear Christians say that we atheists choose not to believe in (their) god, I know their explanation for this will show how unreasoned their understanding of atheism is. Sometimes this lack of understanding can lead the deluded mind to spout vulgar nonsense. On a larger scale some regimes use religion to compensate for their lack of electoral support and this often means atheists end up being targets of persecution. Being an atheist in a Muslim country is not easy. Imagine being an atheist in a country that would pass a bill to politicize churches and where those doing the discrimination consider themselves to be victims.
It is because of centuries of religious dogma that theists misunderstand atheism.
Some schools in England may be breaking the law by not indoctrinating their students. Maybe they would learn more about the gods by playing video games!!
A church in Australia cancels a wedding because the couple support marriage equality.
This weeks’ Woo: Please just make it stop!
Climate Change: Areas of the world poised to be worst affected and what they are doing about it.
Myanmar, a beacon of religious intolerance.
The bias against science under the Trump administration.
The emergent physics behind Evolution.
The winner of this year’s Ig Nobel prize is….
Some photographs taken last week.
While you are waiting for the lamb to roast…..
Coffee Break Video: The roots of religion and how we found out Evolution was true.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorHave a great week everyone!!
People who don’t like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn’t have such funny beliefs.

ParticipantRE: Imagine being an atheist in a country that would pass a bill to politicize churches and where those doing the discrimination consider themselves to be victims.
Its horrible. Most of these assholes should be shot.
September 17, 2017 at 6:04 pm #5170
Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorYes, it is horrible. Christians call it “religious freedom”. I call it “religious privilege”. We atheists will win the fight to keep Church and State separate, in whichever country we live in and eventually make the world a better place for all. I think that we should be able to do so without raising a weapon, unlike what religious zealots do to us around the world.

NoelParticipantThanks for the Sunday School Reg!
Herr Trump kicking out all the scientist, disassembling the EPA, and just being the most ignorant bastard on the planet. Yeah we voted for him. Stupid Americans (before you patriotic nincompoops go all John Adams on me I’m as American as the day is long. Took a vow to defend this rock from all enemies foreign and domestic). But be that as it may; stupid Americans…

ParticipantTrying to win politically with lunatics is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. Not speaking for any other country but the US but right now there are special kinds of assholes running the show. None of them fight fair. None of them are sane, and trying to win the “right” way will backfire. Schumer and Pelosi don’t know what they have done.

ParticipantDid you see the latest?
I am comforted by knowing in time an asteroid will collide catastrophically with the Earth, or the supervolcano below Yellowstone will explode and kill most of us slowly – and then, eventually, Sol will go all supernova on our dim-witted descendants.
All traces of either humanity or pre-intergalactic-travel homo sapiens will vanish. The elements making up Trump and all of his ilk will have long since been recycled into, one can hope, some kind of opalescent and inert rock.
Have a lovely day!

Please be careful with this kind of talk. People get in big trouble for suggesting someone kill anyone…let alone a political figure. Even statements that seem clearly satirical or non-serious can get you in biiiiiiiiig trouble. The US and the UK in particular have even jailed social media users for making, albeit somewhat more seriously, threats or asking someone to kill the president, prime minister, queen. If you ramp up the tone of anti-trumpism a little more, there is a serious risk of getting in trouble (even if you’ve seen other users online saying much much worse).
This kind of phrase is quite likely safe: “I wouldn’t lose a minutes sleep if someone shot Trump”.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorI deleted it. What are the chances that a bunch of Mormons are working for the Government and doing a meta-analysis of the political views of members of atheists websites? These are the guys that put anal into analysis. They love it.

ParticipantYikes. It’s a sad state of affairs when you have to censor yourself out of fear. And we’re supposed to be a “free” country?
September 17, 2017 at 11:30 pm #5195
Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorYes it is. But “they” are protecting your freedom by knowing everything that you freely say and do!! Google knows what your granny had for breakfast but the NSA knows all of that and more.
In countries with blasphemy laws people have to censor their own thoughts and not just the words they write or utter.
