  • @Strega, thanks for the book info.  It’s funny, I’m reading more than ever these days.  When I find an author I like, I read everything I can find from them.  So it’s good to know about that series.

@RegTheFronkeyFarmer, I think you have a point about the Spanish psyche.  I used to love watching Almodovar movies.  Spanish history is full of t…[Read more]

  • Thank you @RegTheFronkeyFarmer for your thoughtful list of links, as always.

It’s not Sunday now, but a boy’s gotta play some time.  So I’m reading it now.

That book from one of your previous posts – The Orphanmaster’s Son – wow, how depressing!  Still a vivid image of an Orwellian life based on a modern country.  Then Amazon had an in…[Read more]

@Strega, that sounds like a good guideline to work on.  I used the word “guideline” because on reconsidering, “commandment” or “rule” is too firm.

This is my most important commandment:  Always have a bottle of Tabasco on hand, for all meals.  Doesn’t matter – pizza, eggs, potatoes, bread – Tabasco makes life worth living.

Interesting list.  Not my ten top rules for living, but some are similar.  Mine would go something like (in no particular order) –

    1.  Be kind to other people and beings.  That includes being kind to myself.

    2.  Live a life of conscious gratitude.  The fact is, most people in most places and most times, have had it much much worse than I have.…[Read more]

@Davis I usually agree with you on most of your posts, but I’m not sure here. There is evidence, from functional MRI and from neurochemical findings, as well as behavior, that dogs, at least, have emotions and memories, and anticipatory responses, as strong as humans do. Not identical, but who are humans to assign higher value to the emotions of…[Read more]

  • Thanks for some great links Reg.

Looking at the first few, it amazes me any more that people are still alarmed by atheists.  To me, being atheist is the most ordinary thing in the world.  I guess I don’t see the real world that much.  Maybe, that’s a good thing.

  • Thanks for a nice list of links as usual, Reg!

I wondered about sputnik as a source.  I guess for an article about the gulf stream collapsing, it would be ok.  Will Nibiru change the intensity or direction of the gulf stream?

It’s a very sad situation when religious organizations are providing evangelism under  the guise of health care.

I do wonder about one aspect of the response, which is stating that “the church” is supporting the facility.   I could see, maybe, a separate entity supported by various churches, which would have its own name, or an answer with the na…[Read more]

He won’t be impeached.  At this point, he could be found in bet with both a dead girl and a live boy, eating a kitten and puppy sandwich, and with film footage of Ukrainian and Russian ladies of the night peeing on him, AND film footage of him shooting someone’s grandmother in the back,  and he still won’t be impeached.   We thought Reagan was tef…[Read more]

I don’t know what to think about this. As far as the current Russian and current US (right wing) coddling up to each other, I keep thinking about the scene at the end of Orwell’s Animal Farm, where Napoleon has a dinner party and the the animals looking through the window can’t tell the difference between the pigs and the farmers.

    As for…[Read more]

  • @RegTheFronkeyFarmer, thanks as always for a nice list of readings.  Something to expand the mind and sometimes reassure the critical thinker.

On yet another antigay child molesting pastor, I like Dan Savage’s statement.  “If kids got raped by clowns as often as they get raped by preachers it would be against the law to take your kids to the c…[Read more]

  • Even though I like the quote about religion being a way for otherise good people to do evil things, I think it’s more of a proxy or focus for tribalism.  For example, while Germany’s genocide of Jews was Christian vs. Jew, it was ethnic white European / germanic vs. Jewish (and dark complexion Roma).   In North America, killing every Native Am…[Read more]

By the way, that buggery law in Trinidad and Tobago was declared unconstitutional. I’m sure this won’t be the end of the story, but it’s nice that not all news is bad. In case you don’t often read the Antigua Observer, here it is: https://antiguaobserver.com/trinidad-buggery-law-deemed-unconstitutional/

    • You would think that the church leaders down would be more concerned with all the dry humping that goes on every J’OUVERT MORNING than someone’s sexual orientation.

  • Since we just finished Easter season, I’m reminded of the annual Easter stories regarding Filipinos being nailed to the cross.  It comes up every year.   Link are old – I forgot to post them here.  Wikipedia.  It’s interesting, the official line of the Catholic Church is that they are against it, and the Dept of Health recommends tetanus shot…[Read more]

It’s intetesting to look at Trinidad’s ethnic demographics. The country’s origins are about 40% from India, 40% from Africa, and 20% all sorts of places.

Religion-wise, it’s about 1/4 protestant, 1/4 catholic, and 1/4 hindu. The rest is s gemisch.

We know about protestant, catholic, and muslim ideas about homosexuality. What about Hindu?…[Read more]

  • This confirms my general impression about life in India.  People in the West often completely forget about Hinduism, which is as oppressive and supportive of subjugation of underclass people, as any Abrahamic religion.  The Hindu caste system is/was brutal, and the repercussions are still ongoing.  Oppression of women and gays is brutal.  And Hin…[Read more]

What I like most about the article, is not the reading about some tin pot dictator wannabee christian potentates, and their tiresome repeat of the same old shit, but rather this:

The story of George and Shirley Brickenden just about moved me to tears.

Lately I’ve been making a spicy hot peanut sauce for my pasta noodles and serving it cold.  Peanut butter, coconut milk, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, Sambal Oelek.  It’s good stuff, but would FSM approve?
