I wonder if the Buddhists in the GOP will tell the party that “Change must come from within” !!

Unseen – there are problems with “cultural specificity” in many IQ tests. But they can be helpful too. See this article. Personally, I know many adults with IQ’s over 150 on the Mensa scale. While about 75% are white, this would probably reflect the % they are in the society in England and Ireland. I have personal knowledge of some children…[Read more]

German? VW couldn’t meet emission requirements and so cheated. Requirements other manufacturers were meeting
Yes, but emissions are not going to be an issue with electric power.

In no particular order;
Yes, I do sometimes take a THC lozenge instead but I find they can be a bit of a wipe out unless my tolerance is “high”. But I don’t consume enough weed to build up my tolerance. I probably only “use” about once a week, Friday or Saturday night mostly (especially “movie nights”) but sometimes I don’t bother for weeks. The…[Read more]

Once a big player like VW, BMW or maybe Nissan improve their batteries they will take the fight to Tesla.
Tesla have been innovators and even “disrupters” in the game but their share value is unrealistic, given that it will not take too long for the competition to catch up. I would be cashing in Tesla stock and playing with some of the house’s…[Read more]

@TheEncogitationer. Thanks for the links.
I think many of these laws are restrictive of personal freedom and the pursuit of happiness. What one does, either alone or with other consenting adults, in the privacy of their own “castle” should be no-ones concern.
But conservative Christians can’t bear to think that what they consider to be “vices”…[Read more]

The National Prayer Breakfast should be abolished.
Virginia votes to abolish the Death Penalty. Next door in North Carolina, atheists are officially banned from holding public office. (Read the comment section).
For these conservatives, winning religious freedom lawsuits isn’t enough.
An Irish atheist and a Catholic priest have a Q&A on blasphem…[Read more]

I recall someone not so long ago talking about how the Catholic school board in Vancouver was the first board in the region to have an official policy supporting transgender kids. I don’t know if that is true or not (or as much of an accomplishment as they seem to think), but I reminded them the reason they had to form a policy was because a h…[Read more]

@Kristina – Yes, that is true. They are also masters of revisionism. I constantly hear apologists claim how the Catholic Church was a beacon of light in the Dark Ages when it came to Education, Science, Cosmology, Abolition of Slavery, etc. In most cases this is completely untrue.
In a generation or two we will hear them claim to have been…[Read more]

Catholics live in an alternative reality created by their Church. Their apologists are in denial over how bad the problem is. They are making excuses for the Church that they grovel on their knees to. They were easily herded into a state of denial about the severity of the crimes against humanity committed by the men they held in reverence. Y…[Read more]

@theencogitationer – of this decades-or-even-centuries-long horror!
That is what I say. It has been going on for centuries. It would be naive or even plain stupid to think otherwise. That is why it is taking so long for the Vatican to get the problem sorted. The entire Catholic Church should be proscribed and outlawed. Why do people still allow…[Read more]

I would have stayed in Mendocino for a while. None of my friends there are religious but I do get about taken aback by their political views at times. On my first day there we found a mountain lion (or maybe it was a bobcat) caught in a “humane” trap on the farm. We returned it in a pickup to the mountains. Not what I had expected to do in my…[Read more]

Yes, I have noticed that on my travels, especially in the Deep South, my favorite part of the US, though I was about to move for a while to rural California before Covid hit. Not sure about that anymore….
This year could be interesting with the Evangelical Protestants who I suspect will once again try their hand at a reformation as it is the…[Read more]

On the surface it might appear that Ireland is still a Catholic country. But even the 2016 Census figures are skewed. We fought against that and should have a better set of questions included next time. It records that about 75% are Catholic but really that should read “cultural Catholic”. Many parents fill out the grid for their children and jus…[Read more]

Yes, the intelligence of savants will not be easily measured. But you can learn to tell the week day of any date easily enough. It’s good fun.
