Set being a useful term because a mathematical set can have just one member—or even no members, a null set.
That’s the difference. A collaborative group must have at least two members (a partnership, team, etc.).

What is the logic of in-group bias? When the most basic group (in mathematical terms, a set*) is the self, it’s hard to distinguish it from simple narcissism.
Expand the set to one’s group (however defined, which is a problem: family? neighborhood? village? territory? nation-state? humankind?) and you have to decide to what extent do you have to…[Read more]

From the article Wisconsin mom appeals defamation suit citing First Amendment rights:
The lawsuit centers around social media posts made on X and Facebook, where Ms. Johnson criticized her school district’s employment of a “social justice coordinator” and used terms such as “woke,” “white savior[s] with a god complex,” “woke lunatics,” an…[Read more]

I regard myself as a flaming liberal, and to me liberalism cherishes freedom of thought and freedom of expression and establishing a space where all opinions are welcome as long as they remain opinions whether I like them or not. The Big Tent concept.
To base a lawsuit for defamation basically on her word choice of the term “woke” is curious…[Read more]

Following is a link to story about a Bedouin Muslim Israeli who had the integrity and bravery to do the right thing. Incredibly heroic and ballsy.

I asked him why he cheated. He looked me right in the eye and said it is not considered cheating because this is a college of infidels.
This is a fault in human nature – our in-group bias. Morality is a group-wide thing and no further (for highly parochial groups). Therefore: 1) other groups’ morals are inv…

I assume that is why so many Muslim are rapists of Whites in Europe. Women are property and have less value than men and when women are not even Muslims they are fare game.
Yes, this is the excuse given by the Muslim “rape gangs” who exploit young girls in the UK. (Other rape gangs are available – the phenomenon is not…[Read more]

The gay dentist made me think of a friend of mine who unfortunately died. Was a gay/atheist dentist from bible belt born into a sickeningly Christian family. So he told me he was more afraid to tell him mom he was an atheist than that he was gay. But neither revelation was pleasant.

My quick scan wrt reasons why this topic came up.
IMO, my sense of a bigger picture has less to do with “freedom to express opinions”, and more to do with “fighting libtard culture”.
Youtube channel WILL (@WILawLiberty), Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, seems to be looking for support in fighting emotionally laden culture war issues…[Read more]

I recall in a calculus class three Iranians got caught cheating on a test, got walked out and received ‘Fs’ for the course. One of them was in my study group. I asked him why he cheated. He looked me right in the eye and said it is not considered cheating because this is a college of infidels.

I had a Muslim guy and his wife consult me and when i met em i went to shake her hand. She just looked at me but the husband FUHREAKED! You do not touch my wife! Went on and on in what was clearly a demonstration of bad manners. He was an asshole entire consultation. Yeah i know interaction with one or two…[Read more]

I think origins of religion can be understood at first as a way to make the environment intelligible and to gain some semblance of control and order. And then humans being humans power dynamics enter the picture. Pattern recognition had to play a part in the formation of rituals that took on supertitious meaning. And then things unfolded in a…[Read more]

It is wild to me and yet unsurprising that Simon who is into ethics/morality and writing a book about it has so little negative reaction to Islam.
I recognise all the criticisms. But I think there’s more that can be said about Islam than blanket criticism.
I’m interested in the origins of religion and what it’s supposed to be…[Read more]

Genghis Khan unified all the Mongolian tribes with his brutality.
The British created the modern state of India out of a gaggle of minor local kingdoms with theirs. And the modern state of Germany wouldn’t have the national treasure of Schloss Neuschwannstein without the brutality of The Mad King Ludwig of Bavaria, either.
Strange…[Read more]
