Hello everyone,
I used to post on the old site “Think Atheist” a lot; and I still plan to come here from time to time to discuss topics that may be of interest to the community here.
So for those of you who don’t remember me; my name is Keith, I’m from Dublin Ireland; I’m now 30 years old. This is the part of the thread where I have to be awkwardly honest here haha. I’m not actually an atheist; I’m a deist; but I have the upmost respect for the atheist position (or worldview if you are comfortable with that description). I used to be an atheist myself for about 11 years. This is not my way of saying “hah, if I can change you can too”. Not at all; that would never be my intention. I’m very opposed to controlling others like that, or telling them what to believe or think ect. My attitude is follow your own path openly and indigently. Me being a deist should have no bearing on any atheist one way or the other. It just means that I changed my mind on one particular issue and you didn’t. Its no biggie.
So I won’t really be discussing deism on this website at all; unless requested. I’m already a member on a deist forum; where I can discuss such matters if I so desire. It makes more sense for me to post threads and blogs on issues we can see eye to eye on. Many deists and atheists; tend to have similar views on organised religion. I too do find it corrupt, very cultish to a certain degree and way too controlling for its own good. Thankfully at least in the westernised world things are getting better. With same sex marriage being legal now in both my home country (Ireland) and the United States; I’m happy to see some progression to be occurring. Now with the rights of the transgender community progressing; I can only see human rights moving forward for the better. Which is amazing.
Ok so other things about me; I also see myself as a humanist. In the sense that I believe human equality comes first before all other issues. While I’m deist; I also see myself as agnostic. Agnosticism to me is no mutually exclusive from either atheism, deism or theism. Unless you are an impartial agnostic; which is the “on the fence position”. To me deism is about faith and agnosticism is about lack of knowledge. I don’t claim to “know” for a fact and it is in my opinion that making such claims about the origin of the universe would be pretty intellectually dishonest. Does that mean I’m open to a flying teapot existing in space? No. Why would I believe in that? It would completely contradict the laws of nature. Anyway point is; when it comes to faith; I do believe; but I’m also agnostic about it at the same time. I guess that makes me an agnostic deist.
Anyway enough talk about deism; I hope the Atheist Zone is a huge success as Think Atheist was. For those of you who don’t know me; its a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to future discussions or debates.

July 28, 2015 at 2:33 pm #1601Thanks Umar; its a great community here.
July 29, 2015 at 11:29 pm #1770Hi Keith, glad you decided to come across. FYI Deism != Theism, therefore Deism is aTheism. Therefore you are quite welcome to discuss such things in the correct forums (and personally I look forward to hearing more about it).

Well thank you Matt; I will certainly keep the site and community posted on my thoughts on the deism philosophical view as I educate myself more on it. But I will certainly be discussing my thoughts on organised religion and its affect on secular society.
