    Fellow Unbelievers,

In 90 years since the repeal of Prohibition with the 21st Amendment, we’ve gone from Bootleggers and Baptists to Blue Helmets and Mullahs, but the Puritanical mania to tax, regulate, and ban victimless vices still remains and has gone global.

WHO calls on countries to increase taxes on alcohol and sugary sweetened beverages

All this does is create black markets in untaxed alcohol and sweets where quality isn’t certain and encourage substitution by consumers that may be even worse.

New York’s high cigarette taxes created an entire black market industry of heisting and smuggling cigarettes from low-tax North Carolina, with beneficiaries including the Islamic terrorist group Hezbollah, who uses the funds to buy rockets to fire at civilians in Israel.

And it’s a ridiculous way to fund health care because with “sin taxes,” funding health care requires unhealthy habits and healthy habits means less revenue to the health care system.

    When will we ever learn?
