Such a strange business mountain climbing has become. Sherpas setting up camps and ropes so that international climbers can try to summit despite traffic jams at choke points. And when they fatally fail; Sherpas are often paid to lug the frozen corpses off that mountain. Strange business indeed.
I heard an experienced mountaineer on the radio earlier saying that Everest will be claiming a lot more lives until something is done to control the crowds. The biggest problem is the number of amateurs, most of whom are not physically fit enough and even some from whom Everest is their first serious climb. Candidates for Darwin Awards!
