BTW, with regards to the Amish, there is the “Rumspringa,” a period in the late teens when Amish youth are allowed to go outside the Amish community to sample “English” life (the rest of the American world outside Amishness is referred to as “English”). They are expected to decide if they are in or out after that period. Either they come back to be full Amish or they will be banished and shunned.

This is more freedom than most cults allow their members, and so maybe they really aren’t an actual cult but are just a way of life as well as a religion.
