I wanted to believe that article, but the march is just commemorating (and the continuation of) sectarian Muslim violence more than some unified Muslim protest of ISIS. Oh and then the mandatory pity plea that the Western press ignores all the good will that springs from the religion of peace.

Women, men, elderly, and children made their way to the city of Karbala on Sunday and Monday last week for the holy day of Arbaeen. Arbaeen is the event which marks the end of the 40-day mourning period following Ashura, the religious ritual that commemorates the death of the Prophet Mohammad’s grandson Imam Hussein in 680 AD.

They paid homage to the shrines of Imam Hussein and his half-brother Abbas in Karbala, where they were killed in a revolt against the Umayyad ruler Yazeed in the 7th century AD when they refused to pledge allegiance to Yazeed’s Umayyad caliphate.

So that’s what is really important….they have fighting each other ever since. The defense of Islam by liberals perplexes me, especially atheist liberals. Islam is a set of ideas that just spits in the face of all the hard fought progress that civilization has made against oppression. Freedom of sexual orientation, of religion, of free speech and press. The fight for equal rights for women. The right to self govern. People gave their lives for these civil rights and if someone gets offended by my freedoms, go right ahead.

Islam just pushes the reset button on all of it, peace be upon you, And BTW wear this, dont eat that.
