I regard myself as a progressive, but I see something among the more stridently political on the progressive left that I’m sure is also present on the right.
What I’m talking about is a loyalty to the democratic ideal that is disposable if their goals aren’t met. Clearly, some at the extreme ends of the political perspective would impose their ideals from the top down on an unwilling populace if that’s what it takes to establish their goals.
Is domocracy just a tactic to be disposed of it isn’t working for you? if it doesn’t satisfy your view of what is fair and/or just?
Is equality and/or justice for blacks, women, LGBTQ, a potential justification for doing an end run around democracy?
