I suspect most/all of you have never seen Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario. In terms of theater traffic, it was a rather small movie with nothing like the budgets of Dune, Blade Runner 2049, or Arrival. However, the cast is stellar: Josh Brolin, Emily Blunt, Victor Garber, and Benicio del Toro who becomes the central character juxtaposed with Blunt.
The movie is a direct descendant of Heart of Darkness through Apocalypse Now and wrestles with “How far is too far if the end is good?”.
Here is a trailer which, unfortunately, gives the impression of just another drug enforcement thriller:
And HERE is a direct link to the movie on Amazon Prime. It’s streaming on other platforms as well for free or to purchase at a low cost.
Here is a 10-minute discussion which is quite insightful:
Sicario is, belatedly, starting to be recognized as a major movie, comparable to Apocalypse Now. It’s fighting the fact that it’s a relatively low-budget project depending on an amazing script and even more amazing acting. No special effects, known but still second-tier actors, and amazing but subtle cinematography.
Nobody wants to discuss it, especially the shocker that comes near the end?
