I once heard a Catholic priest who had destroyed the lives of over 30 children says that “I regret that those children suffered during their early years” and considered that his apology. Just one sentence. No apology for his own actions or for causing the suffering in the first place and no understanding of the long term damage he had done. No contrition whatsoever. Everyone listening to him speak knew he was not remorseful. Then he blamed Satan and asked that people, including his victims, pray for him.
