Autism Spectrum Disorders vary as widely as Rihanna’s wardrobe. There are many different ways the symptoms and severity present themselves.

Contrary to believe even just recently, we now know that autism spectrum disorders affect the ENTIRE brain. Not just a few parts.

It is also not uncommon for people with ASD’s to present with co-occurring disorders.

In short – it is not possible or accurate to make any sweeping generalizations about how the disorder affects religious beliefs. There are too many variables about the brain wiring. So it is inaccurate to conclude that there is a correlation.

It is accurate to say that many people along the ASD spectrum process emotional connections differently, and understand emotions in a different way. But that does not translate to a higher likelihood of becoming an atheist.

@Belle Rose : That actually makes sense.

The “Atheism = Autism” meme was used as an insult for quite a while, as if it were an assertion that Atheists suffer a mental deficiency. In other words, it was used in an attempt to be insulting.

I would be interested in reading the published, peer-reviewed documents. If the study glossed over important factors, such as childhood indoctrination, then it would have a serious hole in it.
