There is a tendency to ponder consciousness as though it is separate and apart from biology. We don’t ask the same questions about binocular vision, bioluminescence, venom, and echolocation.

We also learn how we may be projecting our bias as special creation (even atheists make this mistake) in our criticism of anthropomorphism as we find the animal kingdom and we are not only related but share so many attributes. Franz de waal has written and spoken on this topic and contributed to the defenestration of special creation thinking. There is little doubt we will continue to be surprised by new discoveries of animals having similar aptitudes, intelligence and emotion.

So consciousness is simply an evolutionary thank you very much.
