What I’m worried about most is that covid-19 will keep coming back until we gain enough herd immunity. Korea might be starting to experience a second wave already. But we can’t survive a six or twelve month shelter-in-place, so I suggest 1) We really, really need widespread testing to keep learning who’s infected, isolate them, and trace back their contacts for further testing; 2) people testing negative will likely have to be retested at some point, perhaps even multiple times if they have bad habits or value socializing despite the risk; 3) many of us will eventually learn how to protect ourselves almost as well as the front-line professionals, and we will be doing our part to keep flattening the curve, even back at work (with workmates doing the same); 4) when we can gradually relax shelter-in-place while robustly testing and monitoring our success, we can relax restrictions on younger people more while being prepared for a more controlled level of infections.
An irony imo is that China could get pretty good at doing this controlled infection leveling, with their draconian methods, even on billions of people.
