Oppressed groups or individuals do not improve their lot without a fight. Being passive and resigned to the oppression results in status quo. It is true in both the microcosm and macrocosm. Gay rights, civil rights, suffragettes, bullied kids, abused spouses etc.

Tactics or manners of rights activists will have an impact on results. Individuals and especially those who are in the privileged class may be less receptive to the message if it is presented in an accusatory, confrontational or otherwise ill-mannered way. Notwithstanding a few bad actors for good causes will not derail the movement.
