This story might not just be “small talk”. I’m crossing my fingers that Trump has a real criminal charge that could put him away or take him off the GOP stage. From WaPo:

Classified documents relating to nuclear weapons were among the items FBI agents sought in a search of former president Donald Trump’s Florida residence on Monday, according to people familiar with the investigation.

Am not sure any revelation in re Trump regardless of how sordid, treacherous, or despicable would come as a surprise. (The link works. You know we atheists are not buying any missing link stories)

What would it take to make allegations against Trump stick with his followers? It is all fake news. However it comes out and however overwhelming the evidence Trump and his acolytes will swim in a ridiculous pro-trump narrative. I wonder whether the reluctance to prosecute him is simply a fear of his followers and the civil unrest that will result.

Trump is well-practiced in double-speak so while he SAYS he’s all for releasing the warrant info he is probably having his attorneys cook up all sorts of reasons for him to backtrack and say “On the advice of my attorneys I will regretfully have to ask the court to put them under seal.”

Besides, if actual classified data is involved, expect the document to be extensively redacted with the familiar black bars covering up what you’d really like to see.
