UnseenParticipantTulsi Gabbard, a registered Democrat and antiwar politician, has a quick and easy solution to the war CNN and the rest of the mainstream media are salivating over to increase their ratings.

_Robert_ParticipantReminds me of the good ‘ole Neville’s “Peace in our time”. Russia already formerly agreed to NOT invade when Ukraine gave up their nukes (and they had the quest to join NATO in their constitution.) The cold war never really ended, did it?
What does Putin really want beside murdering his political rivals? I am betting further destabilization of the Western allies and a new Russian controlled union. If he does attack, he better win fast; else a long war of attrition could be the end of him.

To answer your question, he’s too busy gumming down his Jello Pudding and washing it down with Boost and filling his Depends. šš
We could make Putin draw in his fangs and go riding side-saddle on his horse in retreat, but we don’t need to risk one American life to do so. Sending Troops, Sailors, Pilots, and Marines would be absurd on top of absurd in the wake our 20 futile years in Afghanistan and our continued futile and not-in-our-national-interests presence in Iraq.
What we need to do is show up in ports throughout Europe with tankers full of Light Sweet Crude for sale, along with horitzontal drilling and nuclear reactor technology for sale, so the Ukrainians and the rest of Europe can do for themselves economically and militarily, just as Great Britian, Finland, and Israel have shown they can do for themselves.
But to do this, Pudding Cup Joe needs to get off the HoverRound, tear up the Executive Order closing the Keystone Pipeline, Drill Baby Drill in ANWR and elsewhere in the U.S. and offshore, and get the Nuclear Regulatory Commission out of the way of new reactor construction, something we haven’t done since 1978.
In other words, we need to get back to where the united might of the entire world led by a Napoleon wouldn’t dare to take a drink from the Mississippi. Flex the muscle of trade abroad and loving example at home first, start no fights, but be ready to finish them, and we’ll be the boon of freedom-lovers and the bane of tyrants everywhere.

TheEncogitationer. Reason: Spacing. Keep distance even with allies and let them walk on their own

UnseenParticipantReminds me of the good āole Nevilleās āPeace in our timeā. Russia already formerly agreed to NOT invade when Ukraine gave up their nukes (and they had the quest to join NATO in their constitution.) The cold war never really ended, did it? A common view is that Putin doesn’t want a land grab. He just doesn’t want a NATO country next door that has a lengthy and thus virtually indefensible border. Wikipedia: The border has a length of 2,295.04 kilometres (1,426.07 mi) of which 1,974.04 kilometres (1,226.61 mi) is land border and 321 kilometres (199 mi) is sea border.Ā
As Hitler learned, taking land is one thing but holding it is something else entirely. If he didn’t learn the lesson of Afghanistan, he’s an idiot, and Putin is no idiot. If he crossed the border tomorrow, Ukraine is now a country bristling with antiaircraft and antitank missiles.
Even the Ukrainian government has floated the idea of dropping the matter of belonging to NATO, which would require amending their constitution.
We claim we’re “negotiating” with Russia, but in order to negotiate in good faith, we have to have something to bring to the table that the other side wants, and that is the matter of the Ukraine belonging to NATO. If we concede that and Putin pulls his forces back then it isn’t a Lord Chamberlain appeasement situation after all. If he doesn’t, it’s easy enough to withdraw the offer due to his not acting in good faith.
We’re in a world economy devastated by Covid. The last thing the world economy needs is a hot war between a superpower and a proxy state of another superpower. Putin has other cards to play, after all. For example, a lot of Europe’s oil comes from Russia. Putin could just shut down the pipelines and probably bring the European Union to its knees.

You must inject Fox News directly into your carotid arteries. Does the United States have a right to inject itself into other country’s affairs? Quo warranto*? God?
* Quo warranto = “By what authority?”

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorGabbard’s quick and easy solution is not viable. Many Ukrainians want to be part of NATO. That wish is even written into their constitution. Even President Zelensky recently said that their independence would be reinforced if they were members. It does not matter that they are an ex-soviet state. What is important it that the are an independent country.
More here.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorImagine if Trump was still POTUS and was in “diplomatic” talks with Putin or was addressing NATO?
