Hitler and Mussolini leveraged “National Christian Values” and were both hardcore Nationalists. Trump does the same thing. None of them were/are religious but they knew how to find useful idiots. Christian nationalist ideology was central to the Confederacy’s identity, its justification for slavery, and galvanization of its population. We have no idea where the US might go now. The stage is set.
