Unseen, good link. Man alive, in Yemen at least 120,000 deaths since start of it and 20k in 2020. Violence all over!
And the U.S. likes to pretend its hands are clean. Of course, the concern with Ukraine is that it, uniquely among all of the conflicts, it could spark WW3, which no rational person wants.
March 24, 2022 at 12:07 am #42000I watch France24’s English language broadcast on Youtube for views that balance American media views. (I also watch RT and AlJazeera more warily). The German DWnews English language Youtube broadcast is also quite good for hearing Ukraine news from alternate sources.
One interviewee when asked how to get Russia out reminded us how Russia was forced out of Afghanistan. It was an uprising by Russian mothers who were tired of the seemingly neverending death toll of their beloved sons. Russians are human and love their children every bit as much as any citizen of a NATO country.
The faster the Ukrainins can kill lots of Russian soldiers, the better, he argued.
In the news on CNN today, it was claimed that, according to a NATO source, the Russian death toll is massive, in the neighborhood of 15,000-17,000 casualties. Personally, that sounds like an optimistic guess.
March 24, 2022 at 4:57 pm #42001Biden announces the United States will take in 100,000 refugees from Ukraine. Hmm… What about refugees from Yemen, a country undergoing genocide at the hands of that great bastion of Goodness and Light Saudi Arabia, which the Saudis are dong with American material assistance.
Why are some refugees higher priority than others?
March 24, 2022 at 5:16 pm #42002Unseen,
Ah, yes! The famous George Santayana quote, also found on a plaque above the throne of Rev. Jim Jones amidst the pile of bodies in Jonestown, Guyana. I looks like Putin may go the route of Rev. Jimmy as well, assuming he’s not overthrown in a Coup d’Etat. Must wait and see…
March 24, 2022 at 5:31 pm #42003Yeah Unseen, more indication how hypocritical and hollow are the platitudes. It is a fundamental failing of humanity that we do not as a group see through the herd mentality as our empathy is directed by a marionettist. When the US invaded Iraq the marionettist unified Americans in their righteous mission. When the US invaded Mexico almost all politicians and citizens were balls to the wall manifest destiny go get em.
i don’t think USA took many Syrian refugees. I don’t know if any have come from Myanmar. And on the south of the border there are terrorized individuals willing to risk everything even knowing how unwelcoming the USA is. And you got a republican party making political hay demonizing those people. Everything we pay lip service to is BS.
March 24, 2022 at 5:31 pm #42004Jake,
Yep, Napoleon’s excursion to Russia was like Mao’s Long March in that regard. Had he Mao’s mastery of propaganda and ability to mobilize people better, it wouldn’t have been the beginning of the end for Napoleon’s reign. Mao took the deaths of his Long March and turned it into inspiration for sacrifice for tens of millions more.
The prospect of NBC warfare is precisely the woop da doo of Ukraine.
I do agree with you that as despicable as Putin is, it is wrong to scapegoat the innocent Russian just trying to live the good life. Ethnic Russians are among Ukraine’s best fighters. And boycotting Tschaikovsky music and renaming Russian Dressing for Reuben sandwiches as Ukrainian Dressing is just plain stupid and useless.

March 24, 2022 at 5:41 pm #42006Enco, i did not know that dressings were being renamed. Boycotting Tschaikovsky? How fucking stupid! I just listened to the 1812 overture perchance… I may have mentioned before how i read this book by a Jewish feminist and she writes how all Jews were shunned, no longer welcome at the feminist gatherings. Any association with Jews and Israel was so intolerable the mindless bitches have become the intolerable prototype they despise. Again humans are fucked in the head ten ways to sunday and an escape hatch for our expected extinction escapes me.
March 24, 2022 at 8:50 pm #42007Biden administration to welcome up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees
Not exactly overwhelming generosity considering what other countries are doing.
Which countries are Ukraine’s refugees going to? Refugees are also crossing to neighbouring countries to the west, such as Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova.
The UN says that as of 22 March, 3.6 million people have left Ukraine:
Poland has taken in 2,144,244 refugees
Romania 555,021
Moldova 371,104
Hungary 324,397
Russia 271,254
Slovakia 256,838
Belarus 4,938(Source dated 3/23/2022)
March 24, 2022 at 9:09 pm #42008Zelenskyy and the Ukraine government are, at least, soft on Nazis. Their Nazis are white nationalists who’ve engaged in torture and war crimes including burning Russians suspected of collaboration alive. Meanwhile, if you need further evidence, Zelenskyy has shut down opposition parties representing the interests of Russian-Ukrainians (of which there are/were many). What wasn’t shut down: any far-right party.
Now, you can say Jimmy Dore is a leftist, which is true, and that he’s a comedian, also true, but the same can be said about Russell Brand, one of my favorites, and the late great George Carlin.
Like Russell Brand, Dore always has evidence for what he asserts.

March 24, 2022 at 10:02 pm #42010I am wondering if any of you disagree with Dore.
March 24, 2022 at 11:09 pm #42011Yeah, Ukraine with its Jewish president and no nukes is the real threat. How moronic. Yeah, it is Ukraine interfering with OUR elections, spreading misinformation, launching cyberattacks, threatening the world with nuclear winter, fighting proxy wars for authoritarians all over the globe and invading multiple sovereign countries, murdering thousands of civilians. Poisoning its enemies on UK soil even. We should stand by Russia and their ally Trump because Ukraine is out to dominate the planet. Stupid ass shit.
March 24, 2022 at 11:42 pm #42012Robert i don’t disagree with your assessment as to Putin and Russia. But that is not Dore’s point. The point is the public is being manipulated with propaganda. I agree. It is all bullshit. Wrap up the slogans, platitudes, misinformation with a big pink bow and watch the marrionettist work its public puppet.

Right Jake, wow what an important point. Like propaganda is something new. What a revelation! So smoking isn’t good for you? (as if all the smokers hacking their lungs out didn’t really know that).
Decades of Putin, we know what he is all about. Acting like Ukraine is the fourth Reich just to get youtube views is idiotic. Anyways Brandt is an anti-vax fuck who will probably tell you he isn’t really. What a flake. Look, I live in Florida. Houses are covered in Trump flags. You all live up in liberal land.
March 25, 2022 at 12:45 am #42014There are religious Jews and there are ethnic Jews and an ethnic Jew can be pretty much an ex-Jew in an important sense.
Anyway, your black-and-white and 1940’s thinking of what a Nazi is doesn’t necessarily apply to Ukraine’s neo-Nazis. You can bone up by reading this article from The Times of Israel.

Can’t fault your sarcasm at least if the audience consists of yourself, Davis, Unseen, Fronkey et. al. However the stink of group-think drives opinions and creates dangerous circumstances. I doubt even ten percent of Americans question the narrative. I’ve noticed on social media if anyone questions the wisdom of supporting Ukraine they get assaulted.
