UnseenParticipantStrega, that is a winning first line for your novel. The reader is immediately intrigued.
Better as a first line, I think.

Too much psuedo-science everywhere! I’m struggling with trying to communicate positively with people around here, especially the very noisy Trump fans that take over the local paper’s comment section, even though they’re in a conservative minority among a progressive majority. I dunno, it’s like maybe they feel they don’t have anywhere else they can be heard or strongly express their dissent and/or Trumpian-level angst.
That was my mini-rant, prelude to the more positive request, that intelligent and well informed people (such as yourself, whether or not here at AZ) should contribute as much as they can to overcome this anti-science, populistic/authoritarianistic-vs-progressive polarizing trend that has taken over our discourse. Not to blame just Trumpists, as some of the progressive tribe have moved too far left to compensate.
This polarization is even bigger than (say) an EU vs Big Bang debate, and I’m not in the same camp of any strident criticizers of other camps who are not aiming for at least some positive outcome other than contributing one’s personal angst in a monologue. To be honest, I started fucking HATING Trump since his covid failures started, but at the same time see his fans still rallying behind him, so I think we need to understand that the only way to cut out the cancer is by enabling constructive dialog with his fans before the November elections. (I even believe more than ever now that Trump’s intended strategy and tactics are to divide and cause chaos, ala Bannon-like eschatology, so I’m not longer surprised by what he or his fans do toward these ends.)
Meanwhile back on topic about Robert, I can speculate that maybe he’s in hospital (for one of the currently common reasons at our age and circumstances) and hope he will eventually come back here. Maybe a visit to relatives beginning around when the hurricane hit nearby? And so on. (I’m glad you appeared here, as I was worried about your year or so of absence! I just didn’t say it publicly until now.)
@TomS, can you recommend a more decent forum, with respectful discourse among people with different beliefs? -
