jakelafortParticipantEnco, yeah that is messed up. But it is business as usual. Nothing unusual.
Trump is deranged and has a personality that is inherently incompatible with power. He has shown his cards. He has no regard for our government. He is a clear and present danger if he is elected. How much more would he have to exhibit before you would concede that he is not fit for office? If Pence had been hung and he led the cheering and tipped the executioners? He is a traitor. What does he truly believe and think? Does he have any core principles other than self-aggrandizement? He is dangerous. And allowing him to run is foolish.

UnseenParticipant@ Enco @ Jake
Trump is a moron and, in many ways, prone to be a tool of more nefarious others. Putin is an obvious puppetmaster, but I’m more worried about the maniacs he gets his ideas from. Some of them who played roles in the fake elector attempted coup, but that leaves some really sinister bad actors behind to enable him to carry out their agenda. Chief among these, many people in the know feel, is the Nazi-by-any-other-name racist Stephen Miller.

Trump is either a Giant Douche or a Turd Sammich or both, as is the case with Biden. However, you as an Attorney should know that you cannot rightfully call anyone a traitor until they have been arrested, indicted, tried, and convicted as a traitor in a court of law and all the elements of the offense of Treason have been proven before a Judge and Jury with no valid defense beyond a reasonable doubt.
And all of the elements of Treason were established in Article 3, Section 3 of The U.S. Constitution and U.S. Supreme Court rulings on the subjrct:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
Now you can have Trump arrested, indicted, and tried for Treason if you wish, and if a Judge and Jury see it your way, he can be convicted of Treason and sentenced to death.
But the Founders made Treason a high bar to reach for a reason:
The Founders were viewed as traitors by The Crown of The British Empire, the most powerful Empire in the World of their time. Many of the Constitution’s Signers were also Signers of The Declaration of Independence that stood up to that Empire. If The Revolution had not succeeded, The Founders would have benn caught and hanged by the neck until dead.
Even if you arrest, indict, and try Trump, you’ll have a hard time proving both Treasonous intent and act and getting two witnesses to the overt act. And you couldn’t legally get his wife to testify against him, and still couldn’t punish Trump’s family for his acts or seize their assets for Trump’s acts.
And if you wanted to indict, try, and covict the accused January 6th insurrectionists of Treason, you’ll have to add the charges and indict and try them separately and severally, again with no guarantee of conviction.
And many of the accused are still in jail with no bail met and no Constitutionally-guaranteed right to a speedy public trial before a Judge and Jury of Peers, so you will have appeals and certiorari before The U.S. Supreme Court to deal with on top of everything else.
Meanwhile, no one is making me or any other U.S. Citizen vote for either Trump or Biden. And if they try, they will have serious buck-up to contend with and fight to the U.S. Supreme Court…and outside and beyond.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve soiled myself with the mere thought and mention of a Giant Douche and a Turd Sammich and I must perform some Pilates and wash my hands of the whole affair.

I disagree.
If you run for public office, WE become the judge and jury.
Unfortunately all we can do is keep Rump out of office. Even if we can’t convict, hopefully presenting his crimes in court will convince some trumpettes of his incompetence and treason.

I fully agree that voters can vote against Trump or anyone else for any reason or no reason. (Or to be more precise, voters can elect the Electors in the Electorial College who in turn vote for Trump.). I’m sure not supporting Trump..
But Trump is still not a traitor until convicted of Treason and until he is convicted of Treason or other “High Crimes and Misdemeanors,” he cannot be legally barred from running for President of the United States.
It’s gonna be a long 7 months. Might as well make the best of it.
