I don’t see it. The Muslim assimilation into American society.
My experience has been that they tend to associate only with others in their tribe. Talk to most New York City Muslim cabby’s and they’ll tell you that they have college degrees but find it hard to find jobs in their chosen fields.
I’ve had full on conversations where we pull over get coffee and talk about the “Islamic situation”. Weird thing is that they harbor no resentment for the hand they’re being dealt. Most are truly grateful and happy to be here. Why do they talk to me? Sometimes in Arabic? Because they all think I’m middle eastern. Iraqi actually. When I tell them I’m Puerto Rican they always ask me, “where is that?”
Ran into one who started spotting shit about America. When I told him I wasn’t Muslim or middle eastern he stopped.
July 11, 2023 at 6:21 pm #49122You are under the illusion, Unseen, that any government respects the public. With very few exceptions, governments, in fact leaders of any kind, do so to suit their own interests and to maintain the interests of those who keep them in power. Yes, ideology does shape to some degree how they word bills and what they focus on. Over all…governments, and all leaders, answer to those who help keep them in power, and to no one else.
And I thought I was cynical. LOL

I admit it is an act of pure optimism to assume Islam can reformulate itself at least immediately, but stranger things have happened, so I want to wait and see and maybe do things to nudge it along if I can.
The problem of degrees with no matching jobs goes far beyond just Muslims and Middle Easterners. Generations of subsidizing universities and student loans and Pell Grants, combined with a culture of credentialism, have glutted the job market with more degree-holders than jobs to match. It leads to a world of disappointment and mis-matches in careers.
To my way of thinking, the real smart people are the ones who pursue lucrative skilled professions like plumbing, electrician work, or computing and do the Humanities and Social Sciences as a sideline hobby. Maybe I’ll reverse my past career path and do that some day. 😁

July 13, 2023 at 9:30 am #49174Hello again! I would like to add a additional comment to what I posted earlier and in answer to your question about what is happening in France?”The service to self world is becoming extinct and collapsing all around French society when its all finished a world of service to others will fill the void!”
