  • I heard on some show one of the characters say that “Easter was originally a celebration of a woman’s most fertile time of the year”. I guess cause all the animals do it in spring the pagans in the crowd co-opted it.

I’ll be celebrating today by doing the lawn, clearing out brush from my property, and trying to convince my wife that today is the…[Read more]

We’re still being exploited today. The rebuilding of the World Trade Center Tower recently didn’t get done without support from our tax dollars. Yes, I know that private companies paid the majority of the cost but how many billions in tax incentives did the project reap? Amazon recently pulled out of a deal that would have saved it a billion…[Read more]

  • thanks for the Sunday School Reg!

And While we are on the subject, someone talked about taxes. My wife and I filed our tax returns. We owe the government thousands more than what we normally pay. Asked the CPA about Trumps “Tax Cuts” and his response:

“If you make over $400,000 most people walk out of my office with a smile. If you make less than $60,000 most people walk out of…[Read more]

Reparations- Like someone already said, Native Americans, woman, Pilgrims… What about them? Especially Native Americans. Do we give them back their land?

I’m one of those yokels that has never bought into the “Greatness” of America. With that said I’ll relate a story. My daughter is studying for her Masters Degree in England. While there, one…[Read more]

  • @ Davis: I’ve read a lot of your responses on this board and I know you have a lot more empathy than that.

Aren’t you Canadian? Apologies if you’re not. But here, in Uusa, the majority of our income goes towards getting well. The medical and pharmaceutical lobbies in this country call all the shots. They’re powerful and can invest tons of money…[Read more]

“The advancement of religion should be scrapped as a charitable purpose, the National Secular Society has claimed.”

At least England didn’t follow Americas lead and allow the Church of Scientology (Don’t know about  the Jedi Order) charitable tax status. Still, if the USA had the 13 Charitable Purposes Act I would think religion w…[Read more]

  • Yeah Reg, saw that Bill Maher piece too. Dealt with the happiest countries and what they had in common, mainly government sponsored health care which comprises most of northern and Western Europe. What did we come in? 17th?  I’m still waiting for the great part when some misinformed yahoo screams about making America great again. Highest health ca…[Read more]

  • My 2 cents.

I don’t see a problem with someone getting assistance if it means not going hungry or living in the street in the dead of a Chicago, Illinois winter. I’ve never been on welfare; come to think of it, never collected unemployment insurance either. Have always been lucky enough to land work I guess.

But sometimes I think that assistance…[Read more]

I was more privy to the African ones brought here by the African slaves. They actually went hand in hand with Roman Catholic practice of the statues of saints. The Africans gave the Roman Catholic statues the names of their gods and pretended to pray to Saint Barbra. When in reality they were praying to (I think) Chango, or was it…[Read more]

  • Thanks for Sunday School Reg. It’s Friday and I finally got a few minutes to catch up and go through Sundays lesson with a cup of coffee.

@ Simon asked: That’s interesting.  How does that work?

Powers of example. Someone helps someone else out by giving him a coat when it’s cold out; I want to emulate that. Someone robs a bank; I don’t want that. Use people as powers of example. So…[Read more]

  • Reg: to this day I still daydream of a Johnny Walker Black neat.  Haven’t been to meetings in over 13 years. I tend to go with consequential thinking. I like what I have today. None of it is attributable to a higher power named god.

  • Simon:  12 step programs ask that you ask a power greater than yourself to help you with the addiction. And then they go and insert the word God in Their preambles.  But being an atheist I chose my higher power to be society as a whole. It worked for me. On April 10 I will have not used drugs and alcohol for 29 years.  I am proof positive, for to…[Read more]

  • I don’t think he ever existed.

Dont believe in anything supernatural so miracles are out.

My reasons? Other than the Bible there isn’t documented proof by the romans, who documented everything, or any other society that he ever walked among us in the time period he supposedly was here.

Thought the whole “what the lions ate on the ark” was hysterical:

Had a hard time logging in on my iPad and iPhone today; after I got the email that AZ had canceled christmas. Lo and behold it’s still alive and kicking.
