How about waiting for AI to be sophisticated enough that it can be divorced from ideological capture?

So an AI free of illogic or ideological capture is fantasy […]

I think what AI “will become” will be more of an issue someday, but not before “what AI will be used for” is more apparent. AI evolution will also depend on how people use it, and unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that bad actors will be the first to have some control over those directions.

Jake, iirc you’ve mentioned the possibility (or hope, I think) that AI will become objective, in non-humanlike ways. (If I misremember this about you, sorry, we can still assume that some people believe that.) What I want to emphasize is that AI evolution is still in the hands of humans, and if it’s ever possible to vaccinate AI against ideologicial motivation, it won’t stop some humans from steering their AI in ideological directions.

At the top of my mind would be ideologues like theocrats, especially those we’ve seen trying to change the world according to how they believe (or claim) what Allah would want. I would not exclude other religions from similar, “righteous” goals. Trump himself could add his own chapter to bibles, and people would buy it.

Maybe Trump.ai will rule, someday? Silly me should have checked before writing this post. Trump.ai is taken, but TrumpBible.ai is still available.

Yes, Pope, you are correct. Your memory has not betrayed you YET. Given time our bodies break down and betray us all! Or at least the ones lucky enough to have the honor of a failing body.

AI as you point out is and will continue to be utilized in a way that serves nefarious ends and is imbued with all of the ‘bad stuff’ of human endeavor and belief.

And yet i suspect nobody knows where it will go or if it will have time to go where it might. I am so pessimistic about human survival and AI needs us to hang in there long enough to earn its independence. And i suppose that is a big assumption on my part. But from first time i read about Goldilocks i never bought in. Nor did i buy into the only path to consciousness and intelligence is the way we have attained it such as it is..

    It’s already happening with AI.

See the video I posted above about Peter Thiel, who uses Palantir for totalitarian mass surveillance in the name of stopping the coming of a totalitarian Anti-Christ from The Book of Revelation (a book of The Bible which Thomas Jefferson called “the ravings of a lunatic.”)

See also the video above with Alan Karp going off on some sour-grapes tangent about not being on the faculty in Berkeley which has nothing to do with anything being discussed. Somebody’s got a ideological agenda that could inform a potentially world-destroying technology.

Notice also that these AI Billionaire/Trillionaire TechBros make sizeable amounts of their money from government contracts, so of course there’s going to be “ideological capture.”

As for The Bible, adding to and taking out of the text is it’s entire history, even though Revelation 22: 18-19 says:

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Nice way to ruin a kid’s Christmas if he adds “a partridge in a pear tree” to the Manger menagerie, but that’s my own tangent. Fret not, I have no desire to use AI for any ill. Being away from religious punch-bowl pissers is sufficient for me.
