“The enemy of an enemy” still makes no sense to me because as the history of Jews and Israel can attest, you can always have multiple enemies coming at you from multiple directions and stances. In cases like that, trying to get enemies to fight each other is best, as Iran is presently doing on it’s own with the Gulf States.
As for who will take over from the Mullahs and Ayatollahs, I doubt it will be other Islamists. Islam is seen as an alien Arab imposition by many Iranians and there is much talk of mutiny within the IRGC and by the remaining regular military against the IRGC.
Pahlavi Jr. will definitely have a voice in what comes next, though it would be best just as advice-and-consent and ceremonial. Hopefully, the Marxist-Islamist MEK will not be popular and Classical Liberal Free Market Capitalism carries the day in Persia.

They conveniently forgot 52 Americans held hostage for 444 days, hundreds of Marines killed in barracks in Lebanon, Salman Rushdie made a hunted man for years for his written thoughts, assassinations against refugees in Europe, one assassination attempt against Trump, an attack on a Jewish community in Argentina, thousands of rockets and IEDs used against Israel and Americans in Iraq.
As for horses and other recreational games of chance, I’ll defer to you. Maybe Iranians will get their own races and casinos too.
