A friend of mine reckons Aubrey de Gray must like the song “I am the Resurrection” by the excellent Stone Roses 🙂

Reg,
Thanks for linking to the Michael Shermer Podcast on Transhumanism and Life Extension. I’ve had a fascination with the topic on and off for years. After my recent hospital stay last November, my fascination has grown even more. If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing for as long as you can and Transhumanism and Life Extension ties…[Read more]

Environment: Â Our brains are wired to ignore climate change so we probably need to rethink our strategies towards dealing with it.
I will absolutely admit, in day-to-day life, it is extremely difficult to map the effects of small actions to the idea of global catastrophe. In part, it’s difficult to even understand…[Read more]

Natural Selection is a bitch for all species and we’re no exception, but fortunately, it usually works real slow, slow enough for us to come up with solutions.
Not exactly. It’s the failure of natural selection that leads to extinction. Adaptation occurs too slow and can’t keep up with a rapidly changing environment. I read scientists think that 2…[Read more]

Meanwhile, if you have some excess Carbon Dioxide, send it along to SodaStream. Mind you, don’t blow into a balloon and send it. 😁 But if you have ways to reclaim CO2, I’m sure…[Read more]

The evangelical takeover of first the Supreme Court and then the government, instituting a theocracy, is the unfolding of a plan that’s been unfolding for decades. Find the movie The Family (it’s on Netflix for one) for the full story.

https://hnewswire.com/catholic-church-raping-children-is-religious-freedom-for-pedophile-priests/ This occurs in all Christian orginazations around the world. The same can be said about Islam and all religions. It’s seems as the ungodly people claims to believe a good god. This is one of many reasons I hate religions as much as I hate the term…[Read more]

You may wanna recalibrate your miniscule timescale and then think about the success rate (<1%) of all species that at some time thrived. And they did not have the capability (or as I see it the short-term evolutionary mistake) to globally pollute their own planet.

Robert,
Sorry, I just cannot speak with all of the authority you claim.
You see, as of yesterday, I died because it was Friday the 13th, of all the gruesome methods Jason Voorhees could dream up!
Four years back, I died when the FCC repealed “Net Neutrality” and Internet access became charged by the hour and by the e-mail and TV streaming…[Read more]

When alien life happens across Earth, it will be a blue and brown planet, highly radioactive and inhabited by rats, algae, insects and hardy plants. They will find the golden record, immediately realize it is bullshit and completely destroy the planet and hunt down and vaporize all man-made satellites lest any stray human DNA manages to survive.

It feels like ‘free speech’ is being thrown in as an argument where it doesn’t belong. If I’m not seen turning guests away from my home, does that mean I am legally obligated to play host to Latter Day Saints? Does that become their private speech in my residence? Admittedly, I’m approaching slippery slope territory. That’s not what the court d…[Read more]

The court’s opinion seems to uphold that it is the city’s prerogative, as long as they make a consistent policy of approving what flags to or do not go up.
But I agree the distinction you’ve made stands. Weak enforcement of use doesn’t make the flag pole de facto private use or private speech. Or at least it shouldn’t.
It feels like ‘free…[Read more]
