Here is a little observation about cancel culture. A friend just mentioned this to me.

It is a feckin hypocrisy for Christians to call out others for cancel culture. Missionaries cancelled entire cultures. I wont even bother expanding. It is so obvious.

    • Cancel culture has always existed and will never go away. For the longest time it was mainly the domain of conservative forces. Just think of all the cancelling that went on after 9-11 for anyone critical of overzealous anti-terrorism comments, not “supporting the troops” or the Persian Gulf War. Think of McCarthyism earlier and those in Southern States who were cancelled for speaking up against segregation etc. It was only five years ago Kapernik’s career was cancelled for bending the knee at a football game. And all of this was for simply disagreeing with political policies or going against nationalist narratives. Cancel culture form conservative forces still happens every day. But we mostly hear about progressive cancel culture. And the overwhelming majority happens because people say and/or support bigoted stupid shit. You pay a price for saying stupid douchey and often hateful bullshit. And the response, mainly from conservative forces, after cancelling those they disagreed with for decades…is panic and outrage. It is hypocrisy not for just now (as conservative cancel culture still happens) but for the lives they destroyed not for saying hateful, hurtful and even dangerous things….but just disagreeing with racist or nationalist policies.
        • I think it’s spiteful and vindictive, whoever does it.
            • Davis you are correct.

I suppose cancel culture is a manifestation of tribalism. The greater the power of the dominant tribe the greater the backlash against individuals who oppose or act against the power. Calling it cancel culture is just a new wrapper to express the outrage of the far right against the subordinates. Dominant groups do not easily yield power.

                • So Jake, you’re saying that cancelling people is bad when the right wing or religious people do it, but good when the left does it? Is that not hypocritical?
