I’m gonna take a wild guess here and say that I don’t think Ivy is a big fan of the Donald 🙂

Frank Bruni, writing in the NYT today, reckons that Biden should not even bother debating Trump next week.

His article might be behind a pay wall.

I won hundred percent disagree with that article. What they need to do is put the two of them in two separate rooms where they can see on a screen. Let the moderator ask the question. Give them each time to respond, but while one of them is responding the other person has been muted and shut off from camera so that Trump does not have the ability to interrupt, neither one of them would. He absolutely does need to debate him again and he needs to do a much better job. That performance wasn’t nearly enough. If he really wants to win this presidency he needs to step the fuck up because otherwise he is definitely going to lose.

Oh yeah and one more thing, they need to bring in M’aDea as the moderator next time LOL!

I hate to say it, and even though I voted for Bernie in the primaries, I have reached the conclusion now that we need a solid middle-of-the-roader like Biden. Why?

I grew up in Ohio, and for those who don’t know, Ohio is a bellwether state in the sense that the Republicans have never won an election while losing Ohio. Ohio is a post-industrial/rust belt state. My family and my neighbors were middle-class white folks, and if they didn’t work in heavy industry like automaking, their businesses depended on people from those industries for their prosperity. It’s been in a slump.

There is a lot of subsurface latent resentment toward blacks due to affirmative action and similar programs. When someone looks at something like college admissions and realizes that the result of such programs is to let blacks into a program ahead of mostly white more academically qualified students, they see this as unfair and they don’t believe their attitude is racist. In fact, they see affirmative action as racist.

They also see their industries (and not just mining) made uncompetitive due to environmental, health, and safety regulations, and they resent those as well, along with the politicians and party promoting them.

I think the Democrats need in the future to have an internal rule not to nominate nonagenarians for the presidency. I don’t want to see candidates in their twenties or even early thirties, but 36-65 year olds would have a lot more on the ball along with adequate life experience. Joe isn’t senile or even feeble-minded. He has a speech impediment that makes him stumble a bit, but I’m sure he fights some of the effects of aging I deal with at 73 going on 74. Still, he got through 90+ minutes of debate with Trump reciting facts with far more accuracy than Trump, who couldn’t be factual if his life depended on it.

Trump was hoping he could go up against that “socialist” (=Communist in many Americans’ minds) Bernie and the evidence is that he’s trying to portray Biden as a socialist Bernie in disguise. He this hasn’t been terribly successful because most Americans see the uninspiring Biden as a middle-class guy who’s a lot more like them than Trump or Bernie. Bernie was also burdened with being Jewish, atheist, or both, and his equivocation on it could cost him in a national election if it became an issue. Joe is a Catholic, though not a very devout one, and that feels a lot more familiar and comfortable to a middle-class American without anything beyond a Bachelor’s degree, if that.

They resent a party that views them as a “basket of deplorables” because they don’t share Hillary Clinton’s values. The Trump/Clinton choice was a “hold your nose” election for almost everyone, and at least Trump was acting like he didn’t look down his nose at the common American. That was good enough for him to win in those lower-population states that have more leverage in the Electoral College. Getting rid of the Electoral College will not change that resentment and may actually drive some “on the fence” voters away from the Democrats.

Joe will likely get back to work on an environmental program, trying to do it as un-scarily as he can.

Beyond that, I also believe Joe will give us better healthcare system. Medicare-for-all was a pipe dream, almost certainly a political impossibility because while the current system leaves a lot of Americans out in the cold, many Americans have better healthcare than M4A. Until January, I had a 30 hour a week job that gave me better healthcare than Medicare. I had a heart attack which cost about $30 in medical bills and $350 for the ambulance ride. Ordinary Medicare would have stuck me with 20% of the bills. Many lower-middle and middle-class people with blue collar union jobs also have healthcare far better than Medicare. That’s one reason it would have been a political impossibility. That and the damage shutting down the entire healthcare insurance industry would have in ripple effects like insurance workers out of a job and retirement investments heavily invested in healthcare insurance companies, for example.

The Dems need to get back to addressing the needs of the Middle America voter again, instead of concentrating on highly-educated voters living the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

Survival of the fittest at its finest. The earth realized that it needed to rid the planet of this scum and nature has its way of taking care of things.

    Unfortunately Melania has it too.

Ivy i thought that would make your day, week, year.

But don’t feel badly for Melania. It is not like she did not know the guy before she got married. Which qualities do you think drew him to her? Or is it his orange hair?

I have nothing against Melania. I actually kind of like her. I don’t wish her dead and I wouldn’t tell her to go drink bleach.

Good morning folks. It was great to read something positive said about him in the news for a change.
