Wow Cunk is annoying. Why would anyone consent to an interview with her?
January 4, 2025 at 1:15 pm #55684Don’t know how she keeps a straight face…

In case that’s a serious question: 1) The interviewees don’t know who she is; 2) I’ll bet you don’t like Borat, either!
I love them both, but I think I understand why a lot of people don’t.
January 4, 2025 at 6:32 pm #55688The first interview, the brief bit about an infinite number of universes, got me thinking. Would there be no limit at all on what an infinite universe might realize. Can we, for example, countenance a universe in which there’s an Earth populated beings all of whom are either Mickey Mouse or Daisy Duck? In other words, does absurdity place a limit on infinity?
January 4, 2025 at 6:36 pm #55689Cunk is a fascinating combination of a comedian, performance artist, and skeptical philosopher.
January 4, 2025 at 8:29 pm #55690What can ya say about Cunk that aint been said?
Cunk stunk.
Cunk is deadpan.
Cunk is cunctatious.
Cunk is salacious. No topic is taboo.
I like the inherent limitations of those Cunk interviews.

It does for me. Sean Carroll, physicist producer of the Mindscape podcast (who strikes me as brilliant) believes in the infinite universe outcome of random quantum wave collapses.
If I’m wording that reasonably well? The theory is that a universe splits into two universes, as (for some reason) it must be assumed that when a wave collapses it actually collapses both ways, causing the split. I wouldn’t mind Reg correcting me on this.
I’ve seen scientists, e.g. in the Tyson and Greene conversation I just posted just stick to the mathematical rules as a matter of principle, which I take Carroll to be doing to support his case for infinite universes. At some point, what does infinity even mean any more, other than imposing non-falsifiability of the entire theory on the scientific community?
Again, I wouldn’t mind being schooled on this, but I’ve concluded that chances are slim I’ll ever comprehend it. Meanwhile, sorry, I’m just rejecting that idea. If it’s not absurd, I’ll eat my hat in a different universe.

Correct.

Yes, I used to own that comic. Disney sued.
Decades ago I used to own a copy of a college dissertation on the multiverse that got the author hired in the comics industry. He even rose to become editor. (I forgot his name).

The Colbert Report was a big favorite of mine, watching his interviews, and it was always surprising how so few of those interviewed even knew they were being played, or that it was the thing he does every show.
