I had two different people telling me it’s now MAGA month in July. (They seemed to think I’d get really butthurt over it because they were, at the time, crying about Pride month, but it’s not like I care what they want to celebrate.)
For the Americans here, is this actually a thing that’s gaining support, or is it like straight pride parades where it gets a little bit of attention, but it never really happens for them?
July 7, 2022 at 3:08 am #43584First i have heard of MAGA month..
July 7, 2022 at 3:12 am #43585I feel like it’s more of a low-level troll than an actual thing. But it’s always difficult to tell these days.
July 7, 2022 at 3:48 am #43587MAGA is for the quixotic American idealist troglodyte. It harkens back to days of yore when niggers, kikes, spics, gays and women knew their place and men delivered the occasional beatings with impunity. Kids were forced to go to church. Good Whites did not have to integrate with sons of Ham. No threats to male Christian status. Hierarchy fixed.
If ya ask a Maga-head what was great back in the day dya think you will ever hear it is civil rights, social security or the emergence of marginilized groups?
Maybe the MAGA’s need their own nation. Secede already.
July 7, 2022 at 5:01 am #43589I feel like a lot of people on both sides of the aisle might be happy with the idea for secession by now.
July 7, 2022 at 5:29 am #43590I have to bring it back to horse racing.
There is a new federal law, acronym HISA, horse racing integrity safety act. It is intended by congress to address the lack of uniformity in horse racing regulations and specifically stop bad actors who dope horses and the like. So the agency that is appointed to administer the act required trainers, and owners to register with the agency by July 1.
Take a guess which state decided to tell the feds to fuck off? God bless Texas. Texas racing commission said their state legislature had made it impossible to have an overseer that was not the Texas racing commission. And from what i have seen the owners and trainers are wildly supportive. But the thing is 90 percent of wagering is off track. And now Lone Star Park is not allowed to send out their signal to accept wagers. It is all on track wagering which amounts to a couple of circus peanuts and a ham sandwich. All of the money that supports the industry comes from wagering. When the handle plummets purses drop. Let me stop…probably gonna bore the hell out of anyone who read that far. But god bless the Texans deep in the heart of Texas. Texas would probably be the first state to secede.

I would love to help them with that: https://www.caverbob.com/usalong.htm
During MAGA month, especially. MAGAmonth.com is a website, but I’m not risking a visit to it. MAGAmonth.org might be available… would anyone here like to pitch in to start it up so we can help these poor compassion-challenged people find an alternative, distributed-state system they could call their own?

July 7, 2022 at 6:46 pm #43598Anyone ever heard about this “Straight Pride Parade”?
As you can see, the straight pride parade movement caught on like wildfire.

It has almost no content as of yet. A single page with a short paragraph. You can sign up for the movement there. You can also send them comments, but they require a skill-testing question such as “17+3=” to submit your comment, so it seems unlikely many MAGA supporters are getting through. Bots, on the other hand, can crack that.
Perhaps we just petition to change the names of places bit by bit. Kind of like how Cascadia is mapped out, block off part of the current land mass as Freetopia and make it’s capital MAGAtropolis. See if that starts luring some of them in.

I dunno about that. Even as a dedicated meat eater, I feel very uncomfortable with animals being bred for human vanity (e.g. in the “Toy” group of AKC breeds), barbaric entertainment (e.g. pen fights), or any other type of gambling scenario.
Hmm, maybe MAGA dog breeders will exist some day? Oh, if only I were a comic artist, I could come up with some good proposals for how to shape some breeds for specific appearances, e.g. orange and bully-looking. With a fur-less area just for tatooing an owner’s personal advertisement for MAGA Month. And SCOTUS could declare it legal if neo-Cons party legislators don’t federally codify the practice as legal.
Are my dystopian fantasies too vague here?
July 7, 2022 at 7:25 pm #43601Pope, no, Pope, no.
Gambling is life! Even so i hardly ever wager on anything but equines. Not just thoroughbreds but predominantly thoroughbred. My favorite breed is Arabian. Much slower than thoroughbreds but not understood nearly as well and easily my highest ROI (return on investment) Occasional wagers on Paints, Quarters and even mules. Yeehaw.
Am with you as to dogs. So many breeds are for humans but hose the poor animals. Hip dysplasia, breathing problems, needing cesarean section and other health issues. Get a rescue if you want a dog. And it is hard to find a better buddy than a dog.
Never seen a bullfight but the idea sickens me. What is much worse is the living condition and life of billions of livestock. Factory farming is the nonhuman equivalent of genocide. Horrible lives and horrible ends of life. If any of you still think that oh well they’re just dumb mechanistic animals and they lack emotions, don’t feel pain so that exploitation is justified think again. Read a book! Recently finished Mama’s Last Hug. That is a good’n to get the sense of the breadth of emotions and intelligence of our closest relatives and other animals. Incredible innate similarities. Actually it is not incredible to me. I thought as a youngster that science was all fucked up as to animals. Positing ourselves as special creation is contrary to our understanding of evolution.
July 7, 2022 at 7:44 pm #43602@autumn – the couple holding the straight pride flag look happy together. The gooseberry figured out 3 was indeed a crowd.
July 7, 2022 at 7:52 pm #43604@jakelafort – One weekend, many moons ago, I backed 5 grays in 5 separate races and collected 5 times. It’s important to watch for out for them, especially if carrying top weight. Of course, I am not being too scientific here but I cannot not consider it if I see one.
July 7, 2022 at 7:59 pm #43605@jakelafort – Here is another of his books that you might like – The Bonobo and the Atheist.
Frans de Waal argues that human morality is not imposed from above but instead comes from within. Moral behavior does not begin and end with religion but is in fact a product of evolution. (Which I totally agree with)
