Thanks Reg. I was considering ordering that book. And agree with that morality take.

As soon as i read grey i thought of that line i must have heard 100 times. ALWAYS BET THE GREY.
Meadowlands in New Jersey used to have a race on Halloween known as the Grey Ghost. Naturally it was restricted to greys and roans. Night racing so the black of night against the white made for a halloween spectacle. Now Meadowlands only races jugheads more popularly known as trotters.

Anyone ever heard about this “Straight Pride Parade”? I thought it might be satire and I think parts of it are but overall it is pathetic. Two weeks in the machine for the lot of them with a romantic song on repeat!

I’m 100% for fairness and equality for everyone, LGBTQ certainly included, though there’s a lot of room for interpretation as some of the issues cropping up in sports demonstrates.

Now, while I as a rule stay away from parades (I don’t hate parades, I hate crowds), I found myself confronted with a gay pride parade once while shopping in downtown Portland, and a truck rolled by with a number of gay men wearing leather vests and cowboy chaps and little else aggressively mooning those lining the parade route. I kind of wondered what that had to do with “pride.”

To me, a straight white male, a functional gay pride parade would simply consist of ordinary gay and lesbian citizens walking the parade route in their everyday attire basically proclaiming, “I’m out and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished in life despite all the obstacles I’ve faced.”

That said, a “straight pride” celebration is clearly just a kind of trolling.

@jakelafortNever seen a bullfight but the idea sickens me…

I once tried to explain the meaning of cognitive dissonance to someone by using what he had said earlier. He had said that he was a vegetarian not just for health reasons but also because of his animal welfare concerns. Later in the evening he said that he was looking forward to going to Pamplona for the bull run in a few weeks’ time. That statement made it very easy to explain its meaning. He was not happy with me for using him as an example. 😊

The score so far this year is Bulls 6 Humans 0.

Reg, I’ve intentionally avoided reading about fish. Finally in Mama’s book i read the fish section. But i aint stopping. My ass likes fish . I am good with a little hypocrisy. I also recognize horse racing ain’t all peaches and cream.

I know someone who watched a bull fight in Spain a long time ago and was vocally routing for the bull. That cheering was not well received by the other spectators.

Jake, I hope to enjoy many more summer evenings or weekend afternoons at my local track and WHEN I collect my winnings, I will enjoy some smoked salmon courtesy of the bookies.

Just like the adage about the greys, there is another one over here – “You’ll never see a bookie on a bicycle”.

I found myself in a similar situation with someone who was unfamiliar with the concept of passive aggression. I did not have an example from my interactions with her, so I offered an example of a so-called “lefthanded compliment.” I don’t remember the specific example but it was probably something like “I don’t think your nose is too big. I think it looks fine” or “I don’t care what they say, I find you quite attractive.”

She could not get it through her head that you can use a compliment to be mean. A compliment is a compliment, apparently.

BTW, could you explain your bull running score. Does Bulls 6 mean that six bulls were able to kill or injure a human?

Unseen, ya gotta be incredibly dull or have something peculiur about your brain so that all utterances are taken literally to not understand those cold shots.

Reg, smoked salmon is great when your horse is a lox. Fairyhouse images look great-bucolic setting. Some day i gotta get to Ireland. Have heard there is great hiking and while i would not be doing any more than action bets cuz i have no clue about racing there i would love to spend a few afternoons at one of the tracks. Bookie on bicycle is new to me.

Unseen, it is my understanding that after the morning run the bulls that “participate” are rewarded by never getting to see another morning.

I took this today in Dublin. Guess there are not enough people left here in need of reading pseudoscience and BS. But then I noticed the menorah in the window. WTF! 🙂

Something else taken over by those nasty Jews, Reg. They want to replace everyone.

I think her problem was that she regarded “passive aggression” as a kind of oxymoron. To her, aggression means some sort of violent activity.

I believe that is used in Christian symbolism as well, a reference to Revelations or something.

    Fellow Unbelievers,

Never heard of MAGA Month. All these months and days devised by marketing geniuses can be too much to keep up with, so it failed if it’s intent was to get attention to The Donald.

Reg, this reminds me of a parody of the radio commercials of Tom Boddett for Motel 6 with the dreary violin in the background. It was Tom Bodean for Motel Sick advertising a Hanukkah Special for all our Jewish Friends and it ended with the slogan: “At Motel Sick, We Leave The Menorah On For Ya!”

Pretty tasteful in Jewish Dad groaner pun kind of way. 😁
