A very well-recorded concert in Prague the last week or so and it includes some of the songs from the new Keep Me Fed album. Pau singing the song Sharks is a highlight and Ale takes a more prominent than usual role on the song as well.

Well it was good while it lasted, which I appreciate. I got to watch half of it before it got blocked. I hope whoever hosted the venue posts more of their shows, but they didn’t post a lot from 2023. I don’t know why. Edit: I just read that their concerts are free, and this one had 150k people. Sometimes as many as 800k on the grounds. This just adds to the mystery of if/how they monetize it.
Speaking of Sharks, this short from Wacken is fun. Her low “Go” after “one, two, three” got some attention, including mine.

Well, here’s one you can watch because iot’s official. It’s their collab with Band Maid:
Like many Japanese bands, the level of musicianship they have is just insane. TW can’t compare on that level. Their forte is in their songwriting. Thus, I think the song was largely written by TW.
As for the now-banned concert, I suspect it will eventually reappear in edited and enhanced form as an official video.
August 6, 2024 at 5:21 pm #54412An expert analysis by a musician/sound engineeer of the Show Them collaboration:
August 26, 2024 at 8:15 pm #54513A high-quality video of TW performing More, video stitched together from two concerts and with what sounds like the studio audio.
September 2, 2024 at 10:21 pm #54591An exciting live recording of TW performing their song Disciple from a very recent concert event at the Pepsi Center in Mexico City, With this band, it’s not just how well they play, how well they write songs, but also their increible stage presence.
September 9, 2024 at 5:34 pm #54662Mini-concert on Times Square NYC. They never ever phone it in.
September 12, 2024 at 4:18 am #54675I was just going to sample a few minutes of it, having the usual fancam’s low audio quality, but then it got interesting.
They sounded tired to me, and that should never surprise anyone as they work so hard, and this could have been a last minute rush to put it all together. (Just guessing. It looks likely there were not many invitations given out.) Got to hear Ale more, and it sounds to me like her skill’s improving. I still hear some out of tune singing from her (and even Dany a few times in this show), but I root for Ale whenever she keeps trying.
At 12:45 Dany couldn’t play the chord right, and she didn’t try to play that chord again. I’m thinking she just forgot how to play it. Someone filled in Dany’s missing chord by voice, when Ale and Dany weren’t near a mic. I couldn’t see Pau well until I zoomed the video in, to verify that she was covering Dany’s missing chord with her voice.
Someone in the comments said that they didn’t have a click track going, but I couldn’t confirm that. Pau definitely had background tracks going, so her laptop was engaged.
Finally, a lot of sound levels sounded off, but with at least two cameramen recording this performance, I suspect they’ll be able to remix the sound and present this show as a good sounding gig, and pretty good video, if they choose to. (One of the cameras was a 360 degree camera on a greatly extendable boom that might make it look like it was on a drone.) If they do, it’ll be interesting to see what they do with the less than 100% voices, Dany’s missed chord, and Pau’s chord fill in.
I’m glad you dropped this one in, here!

All humans make mistakes and TW is no exception. They’ve been touring very intensely lately and are probably a bit worn out, jet lagged, whatever.
There are some blooper vids out there so they are able to laugh at themselves.
They’ve been touring very intensely lately.
Perhaps they should turn down some of the more minor “gigs” in order to rest:
And then, there’s the one where Ale falls on her ass but keeps playing:

September 16, 2024 at 9:36 am #54704So live show Pepsi Center CDMX 2023 might be comparable in quality to Teatro CDMX 2022. It’ll have a whole nuther set of reactions, starting with the single song releases. People point out how they’ve matured musically over only one year. They’re releasing singles from it, and I imagine they might release the whole concert after it’s fully edited. @unseen, you’ve probably read more about it than I have. You posted Disciple from Pepsi, above.
Black Holes from Pepsi just dropped, and I misted up watching Pau starting around 45 seconds in. There must have been stories about it this year? She wrote this song when she was 13!?

Yes, the Pepsi Center concert was very well documented both video and audio. Have you noticed that Dany is using her Fender baritone guitar more and more? A baritone in standard tuning is tuned a fourth lower than a standard guitar allowing for a growlier sound.

Oh yeah, recently heavier. Some familiar with TW mention they don’t like the extra processing in their latest music, while others point out how some processing was done, while liking it. As for reactors new to TW, hearing the new songs before their older songs, they seem to be generally enamored with the recent songs. That’s not surprising, because TW is always a wake up call when hearing them for the first time.
In the same vein, I personally like the new sound, mostly. I’m happy to give them poetic license to it enjoy too, as they keep having fun with their work. Sharks is extra fun for me. Meanwhile, new reactors almost always like what they’re hearing, and scan backwards to listen to their fantastic older stuff, too.
Edit: At some point, whatever his excuse is right now, I don’t think Beato can avoid them for much longer! He’s also able to hear and explain tasteful processing, at least, so I hope to hear his opinion on it.
September 18, 2024 at 7:06 am #54726Jeebus, they just dropped Breathe, a song that Lava Records wanted on their last album but Pau told them ok, only as long as she’s not required to sing it live. In the Pepsi concert, she said she might play Breathe live, but only after she sees how the audience reacts to Black Holes. Breathe is the song track that has been played during concert intermissions, but never live until Pepsi. It’s very emotional for her. I haven’t checked the original album recording yet, but think she wasn’t able to finish the whole song. Or maybe it’s just a shorter song than I thought.
First, I’ll post here comments from two people about the song, left by viewers of a reaction to the song:
1) The context of this song is how she felt when she had a panic attack after learning about the death of someone she loved very much. I think the lyrics are spot on in trying to describe what a panic attack feels like. Turns out, when they signed their contract with Lava… they already had almost everything ready when Lava asked them for one more song. She ended up giving in and recording the song, but she wasn’t really on board with it, so the agreement with Lava was that they wouldn’t have to perform it live. That’s why it sounds so different from the rest of the ERROR album. It’s practically the original demo recording.
2) Pau revealed in an interview that she obsesses over death, specifically wondering if when you die you retain memories of your life, or if it all goes away and eventually you and everything you did in your life will be forgotten. For example, she sees a statue of some famous person and she wonders if they even know that people made the statue in memory of their life’s accomplishments. Whenever she ventures down such a path, going off on a tangent, both Dany and Ale recognize it and ground her to reality. I don’t know for a fact that this song relates to any of that, but having heard her talking about that, it made me wonder. She is an incredibly talented, creative person. And despite the exterior persona of strength that she has in most situations, the fact that she exposes a lot of her inner thoughts and feelings through her music and allows her emotions to surface when she performs, exposes what is her Kryptonite.
In the beginning, she explains in Spanish how personal the song is to her. When she starts singing it, the audience sings too, but she interrupts and says in Spanish “I have to sing this song”. The audience understood, and didn’t sing again until the chorus.
September 18, 2024 at 8:01 am #54727I always say in comments that Pau is the beating heart of the band. They have two capable lead singers, but Dany is the lead singer for the rock n roll material. Pau is best for the emotional material like Breathe, Revenant, the solo version of Creep, and 23 (the third verse of 23 in the Teatro Metropolitan concert is expressed so passionately).
She’s the emotional center, the main composer, lyricist, and arranger, plus she’s in charge of the electronics. And, oh yeah, she plays drums, too.
Like I said, she’s the beating heart of the band.
September 29, 2024 at 5:49 pm #54831The sisters sit down for a long (1 hour +) interview that reaffirms why they have such a fanatical fan base. They are a wonderful combination of humility combined with intelligence and animation. They talk about many things, but for me their writing process was the most interesting part. They say it’s much easier to write lyrics in English, which didn’t surprise me because English has the greatest vocabulary to draw from with many different ways to say the same thing, myriad word endings and inner rhyming opportunities, and so on. That said, while writing they communicate with each other in Spanish. They also talk about the shock of moving from writing all their songs themselves to collaborating. For example, among themselves, they won’t hesitate to be brutal, saying “That really sucks!” whereas with a collaborator they are more diplomatic. Not conscious of being rock stars, these are three girls it’d be fun to hang out with.
