StregaModeratorHey Reg! Thank you! Great year of Sunday School 🙂

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorThanks Strega, hope you are warm and cozy where you are. I was almost going to fly to Atlanta today but skipped it this Christmas. Weather is better here!

StregaModeratorAs part of my divorce, I gave the whole house and contents to my almost-ex wife. I then landed the perfect place to live. I’m ‘caretaker’ for my friends spare house (the mother died a while back) sort of like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
I pay a peppercorn rent and have a four bedroom house in the woods with 6 acres of land, and heating from oil, with a backup pellet stove.
And my two rescue dogs cuddle up close. This is looking like the best Christmas I’ll have had for over a decade.
Ps. 2025 is looking brilliant for me!

That does sound nice. Divorce is a bitch, but it is almost always worth it. And screw Oprah’s lap dog, Dr Phil for exploiting Shelly Duvall. Best horror screams ever in “The Shining”.

Belle RoseParticipant@Strega I’m sorry to hear about your divorce. Acreage in the woods sounds lovely though. Glad to hear you’re feeling positive about the future in 2025!

Simon PayntonParticipantHow a young Dutch woman’s life began when she was allowed to die.
I don’t think that assisted dying on the grounds of depression should be legal, because depression is always in theory reversible. On the other hand, it took being genuinely offered to die for this lady to want to live again. It’s a difficult one.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorFor those with terminal illnesses, assisted dying is a powerful quality of life option. For most, just knowing that they have the legal option in place in case they want or need to avail of it at some future point, immediately improves their quality of life. It also allows their love ones, who would assist them, the peace of mind knowing they will not be accused of murder. “OK, we have a plan in place, now let’s make the most of the time we have remaining”.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModerator@Strega – Too many people are afraid to live on their own for even a short period of time. I highly recommend it.
Maybe just don’t start writing a novel about what can happen to Jack when he spends too much time at work and not enough time playing. 🙂

jakelafortParticipantHow many times have i read/heard people ejaculate with conviction how this group or that group is terminally stupid? Trumpers. Progressives. Aborigines. Hicks. Chicks. Chicks with dicks. Is there any native difference in intelligence between groups? Almost certainly but it misses my point and even the crem de la that is good soup group is essentially the same as the other groups. Only a few of those bubble up sufficiently so that pea soup in cheeks is discernible.
What ought to be a trite observation is instead an outlier. Humans are led. Led, lead, led. Nobody home to think critically. And the greater the religiosity and concomitant indoctrination or political ideology the more frank the phenomenon. Humans take their beliefs and morality from the norms of the greater culture. We are as a SPECIES mindless ants.
Tell me if the Yemenis and Houthis are terminally stupid or representative of humanity.

_Robert_ParticipantJake, if ape-like humans of a million years ago hear a sound from some bushes, the ones who runs without checking the facts will live, while the one who want to know what made that noise might not. So most of the tribe runs off together. The curious one gets eaten alive.
