Priceless comment, Jake!

I think Mr. Munch painted a few expressions of them on a bridge 🙂

Janke?
Ok.
Sorry for the misspelling. The finger accidentally landed on the ‘n’ in transit to the ‘k’.
Enco, surely you must acknowledge how the metaphor of the cave cannot possibly capture the depth of ignorance and our wiring to understand it all?
Of course, there is always infinite ignorance of something with everyone. But it is neither inveterate nor eternal with rational effort.
My hypothetical is not Pascal’s stupidity.
Well, good. In that case your odds of understanding are orders of magnitude greater.

If you’ve ever listened to Tucker Carlson, he is evidently suppressing laughter with every sentence until his incredulity gets the best of him and it comes out at the the most unfitting times. He ain’t right.

Hold your praise. This would just mean that the only Churches and Mosques allowed would be ones that favor the religion, ethnic group, or tribe of the ruling regime, not a promising prospect, give the recent history of Rwanda.
Also, I’m pretty sure that all witch burnings, heretic burnings, book burnings, exorcisms, pogroms, honor killings, Crusades, and Jihads throughout history were all presided over by credentialed, certified clergy of the faith performing all these atrocities.
And where would non-believers figure in all this? Would non-believers be able to skate if they got ordained by the Universal Life Church?
Universal Life Church

jakelafortParticipantYou are right Enco.
I had a kneejerk reaction that was all wrong. Was thinking of the genocide there but that was not about religion. It was ethnic/tribal. Was thinking somebody in power finally recognized the hard caused by religion and was imposing standards to discourage terrorism. A place as poor as Rwanda will have religion run amok and obviously you don’t want Muslims to have power in a place like that. The prez is Catholic. On balance maybe it will do some good. IDk

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorAuthorities are enforcing new rules that require religious leaders to hold accredited theology degrees in order to lead worship and register their institutions.
I wonder what qualifications are needed to decide what the objective standards are for the curriculum of a theology degree.
“The study of theology, as it stands in Christian churches, is the study of nothing; it is founded on nothing; it rests on no principles; it proceeds by no authorities; it has no data; it can demonstrate nothing; and it admits of no conclusion. Not anything can be studied as a science, without our being in possession of the principles upon which it is founded; and as this is the case with Christian theology, it is therefore the study of nothing.”

TheEncogitationerParticipantJake:
Keeping government out of religion would keep either Islamic Sha’ria or Christian Ecclesiastical Law from asserting domination over anyone except willing adherants to the religions. And impartial enforcement of anti-terrorist statutes can address non-State actors.
And making Rwanda and the rest of Africa more prosperous will require freer markets out from under either local warlords or Neocolonialist Red China’s “Belt and Road” initiatives. Trump’s emergency powers to impose tariffs have been struck down by the Supremes, so maybe there’s a chance to restore friendlier trade ties with the rest of the world.

I don’t have it front of me, but there was a great video of Richard Dawkins denying the legitimacy of Theological degrees as well.

Certifiicate from Trump U or Prager U would likely suffice .

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorTo continue with the Block Universe idea: Time may not be a fundamental ingredient of reality, but rather an emergent feature arising from the relational structure of physical interactions and information. The quantum world suggests reality is made of relations, not objects whose measurable properties are defined only in relation to other systems. Time is not a flowing entity but an emergent ordering of relations; “now” is simply the position a local system occupies within that order.

Kasparov whose predictions on Putin and Ukraine panned out and thinks the future of US is tied to the midterms. Timely listen.
