Reg,
Josh Hawley would have been right next to King George III condemning those upstart writers of The Declaration of Independence for thinking “all just powers derive from the consent of the governed” instead of Divine Right.
He would also have stood with Pope Gregory XVI, Pope Pius IX, and Pope Leo XIII in their blasting of Enlightnment…[Read more]

Reg,
The Voyager crafts may have a different itenerary back to Earth if some go out to intercept them. I’d bet on andy Griffith and friends making the trip before Elon Musk can even blow up on the launch pad:

That article about time only existing because/when we measure it reminded me, perhaps bizarrely, of Kurt Vonnegut’s off-the-cuff definition of death as becoming “stuck in time.”

re..The Cuddly One gives women something to keep them occupied..
Yeah, there is a very specific biblical blurb on women lecturing men..1 Timothy 2:12
“I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.”
But that doesn’t resonate with Joyce Meyer or Trump’s nut, Paula White for some…[Read more]

Reg, thanks for the reprint. Clearly, Sen. Hawley is a Christian Supremacist.

The Roots of Josh Hawley’s Rage
By Katherine Stewart
Ms. Stewart has reported on the religious right for more than a decade. She is the author of “The Power Worshippers: Inside the Dangerous Rise of Religious Nationalism.”
In today’s Republican Party, the path to power is to build up a lie in order to overturn democracy. At least that is what…[Read more]

Yes, I forgot about that. It is a very good article. I will be back at my home office (OK, kitchen table) in about 1 hour from now and will do so then.

Reg, the NY Times has a fearsome pay wall. Why don’t you copy that Josh Hawley article and put it up as plain text or as a pdf? I’d love to read it, but I don’t want to subscribe.

Reg,
Oh, I forgot to add: If any innocents caught COVID-19 as a traceable result of any of the riots and mayhem of the last 7 months, they should get proceeds from the Pay-Per-View.
And any known spreaders participating in the riots and mayhem of the last 7 months need some very special treatment before getting thrown into Thunderdome, say, a…[Read more]

Reg and Fellow Unbelievers,
After the Trumpistas invaded the Capitol, indeed after all of this 7 months of rioting, looting, bug-spreading, and general man’s inhumanity to man, there is a thought that keeps running through my mind:
Thunderdome…and not just Thunderdome, but an inter-group Thunderdome…played about like the TV Show Survivor…Wi…[Read more]

Something else to lighten the mood from Mojo Nixon:
Oh, and, Simon, you don’t have to be single and childfree to be a Doomer. Al Bundy was proof that the opposite was true as well:

Fellow Unbelievers,
I thought I would lighten up all the suicide talk by pointing out something about the History of Atheism article:
It seems to imply that Buddhism was the initial carrier of Atheism in world history. Actually, there was a school of thought in India called Charvaka or Lokayata which was an Atheist, Empiricist, Naturalistic…[Read more]

I’d go so far as to say that science is applied philosophy. So, of course they can overlap.

Simon, you in your thinking have adopted the general flaw of Indian philosophy: over-inclusiveness. Everything is just a permutation of one universal something. All views are true in some way once you understand them. There are no real hard distinctions, just different ways of seeing the same thing.
Sound familiar, Deepak?

No Simon. There may be some overlap but philosophy and science use two different methods. One is the scientific methods (notice plural) and the other is simply asking abstract questions and answering them. When philosophy tries to be specific (like dealing with a concrete bioethical issues) it may seem scientific but it does not use the scientific…[Read more]
