Atheist Zone 10 years, 5 months agoJust checked the activity and the most recent post was one from me over a month ago, What is wrong? Are people here just not interested in starting and discussing topics? Certainly the old Think Atheist was a much more active site.

Winter Lily started the topic Go Set A Watchman book review in the forum
Bookish atheists 10 years, 9 months agoOk so Go Set A Watchman was pretty good… Well lets just put it this way I liked and didn’t like it. Atticus in GSAW (Go Set A Watchman) seemed like a stranger in this book. Like I said I liked the book but I couldn’t really get into it in the beginning I was practically glued to the book but then after awhile it just bored me a bit and the…[Read more]

Winter Lily started the topic To Kill A Mockingbird book review in the forum
Bookish atheists 10 years, 9 months agoI absolutely loved To Kill A Mockingbird it was amazing although I thought for sure (Spoiler alert!) that Tom Robinson would go free and they were sooo close to winning but then Tom runs off and well…?
But besides that I really loved it. It gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I just really wish Tom Robinson hadn’t run off like he did while waiting for the possible appeal.

Bookish atheists 10 years, 9 months agoI loved this book too! Normally I don’t like alternating first-person perspectives, but I thought it was done really well in this case. And as you said, such beautiful writing.

Winter Lily started the topic I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson review in the forum
Bookish atheists 10 years, 9 months agoI just finished reading I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson.
Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next, while daredevil Jude cliff dives and wears red lipstick and does the talking for both of them.
But three years later, at sixteen,…[Read more]

Reg the Fronkey Farmer replied to the topic Genius of P.G. Wodehouse in the forum
Bookish atheists 10 years, 9 months agoAs I grew up I remember my father reading PGW with regular loud outbursts of laughter and seeing a long line of “orange” Penguin books by him on one of the bookshelves.
“I hadn’t the heart to touch my breakfast. I told Jeeves to drink it himself.”

Bookish atheists 10 years, 9 months agoIndeed. The Code of the Woosters was brilliant.
A particularly nice quoty by Wodehouse:
“Everything in life that’s any fun, as somebody wisely observed, is either immoral, illegal or fattening.”

Bookish atheists 10 years, 9 months agoFor anyone who is a fan of the English language and hasn’t read any Wodehouse, I recommend it – particularly the Jeeves and Wooster books. They contain lovely turns of phrase such as:
“Well upon my word, Spode, this is just too much. Just that little bit above the odds that compels a man to take drastic action.”
“I don’t think Totley Towers is…[Read more]
