I hope it clears up soon. Going to spend the whole day hikingwalking. Jake – Reading Dubliners as a ‘wee lad’ is an achievement.

Last couple of days Reg. Tuesday it was sepia coloured outside. Felt I was in the 1890s. Today’s been a bit iffy. Tomorrow it’s going to be clear. We have local smoke trackers on our weather apps at the moment. It must be awful at the source.

Anyone impacted by the wildfire smoke? Folks in NY say it is a problem. Looks like it is in VT too.

Jake, people have been pointing out they’re very familiar with the traditional digestive disasters from Taco Bell and that this new explosive upgrade is of a completely different nature.  🤷‍♀️

Jake. “Dya thinnk those Trump guffaw producing fuck ups are real or AI?”

The real tragedy is that we even have to ask.

Yes, McCain of course. When I hear people ask if someone “has come out yet?”, I ask them “When did you come out as heterosexual?” or “When did you decide you were heterosexual?” depending on how concerned they seem to be about someone else’s sexuality. If they get all riled up I say “Oh calm down man, nobody here cares if you are straight or not”.

I haven’t yet had the time to think about the impact of his passing. I don’t fully agree with the sentiment that he became a MAGA Trumpist. I think he was clever (or diplomatic) enough to learn how to ‘speak Trump’. He remained in the Cain camp with foreign policy He was an interventionist in that regard while Trump instinctively does not see any…[Read more]

‘member, we don’t talk foolishness we talk trut’

Twenty past midnight here in Dublin. 18C / 66f but a cool breeze….

@Reg so you don’t think this last weeks record breaking heatwave was caused by the gates of hell being opened for him?

I have not this conspiracy theory yet so I might as well kick start it…..Lindsey Graham goes to Ukraine. He had just organized a major weapons shipment for them. He goes back to America and dies of a sudden cardiac event. Putin hated him……….

Thanks, Reg!!

Have a great week!

One of my clients is a large Dublin hospital. If I do have to travel to site, I aim to be there during lunch hour. A very good quality meal for $5 (staff canteen).

As for the Irish Star, do not be fooled by the humble tabloid layout, the celebrity-adjacent headlines, or the general impression that the editorial meeting takes place inside a…[Read more]

……and some commentary by me and then edited by AI.

1. Federal assumption of state debts
The federal government took on the Revolutionary War debts of the states. This was politically explosive, but brilliant. It made creditors loyal to the federal government rather than just to individual states. In plain English: Hamilton tied the moneyed…[Read more]

@Enco – Yes, I found the Commentary article to be a very good read.

Here is another one I read recently. Taken directly from the Irish Times, July 4th. Written by David McWilliams, an Irish economist.

It’s impossible to imagine the world without the dollar.

The American republic is 250 years old today. On this auspicious anniversary, the s…[Read more]

And if we’re to benefit from these proteins, we’d best get cracking and use AI and Ion Mass Spectrometry to observe and possibly craft these proteins as needed.

Understanding protein chains is one of the greatest initial accomplishments of AI. Before AI we had a very small library of knowledge on the structure of protein chains. Some sci…[Read more]

Simon, here is a great read from a previous Sunday School….Life is Simple…

Occam’s Razor is not dead. It has been demoted. It is no longer the supreme judge of scientific truth as Nature may not owe us humans a simple explanation.

I would say that Nature is elegant but not necessarily simple.  I don’t believe the most simple explanation is the right one.
