Sunday School 1 day, 5 hours agoEnco,
I can’t remember the title of book that described the anxiety of pregnant hiding from Nazis while pregnant and how all the kids were mental. But the imagery it created in my mind sure has sticky fingas.
There is no shortage of trauma in humans that would make ideal subjects to study this topic.
In other news every frickin time i zap…[Read more]

Where was this campaign of yours in the U.S.A. or the old country of Erin?
I wouldn’t have torn poor Shepherd’s copy of The Holy Bible, but I would put a single bookmark in it referencing the Web Site for:
The Skeptic’s Annotated Bible/Qu’ran/Book of Mormon

I had a similar ‘tug-of-war’ with an election official once. I asked him “Why is the Bible on display on all the tables in the polling booth”. He gave me some bs about it being official policy based on the Constitution and demanded it back.
I then told him it was only half a bible because it was only ‘ The NT’ but was still 100% illegal. I held…[Read more]

The study in The Guardian article only had 32 Jewish men and womenwho were held in Nazi concentration camps, had suffered or witnessed tortured, or who had to hide during World War II.
The premise of the study is worth exploring. but was an incredibly small sample. You are correct that it would help to study other people who have suffered…[Read more]

Yea interesting vid on Lamarck.
I don’t know if anything got passed on to me epigenetically. Two generations removed from Germans murdering my family. Plus i am a half breed.
I could not find it on a quick search but i read about pregnant Jewish women somewhere in Eastern Europe who hid and later gave birth. All of the offspring had…[Read more]

News about the lark with the Ark in the park is always a source of happiness for me. I still think about this headline every so often:
Kentucky Noah’s Ark sues insurance company over damage caused by heavy rains.

Fantastic, enlightening video and book on Lamarck! I learned even more about him from this video.
I didn’t know Lamarck was the first weatherman! Napoleon really screwed himself and his troops by dissing Lamarck. If Lamarck’s weather correspondence had extended to Russia, maybe Napoleon’s men wouldn’t have had to eat their own horses…[Read more]

I DuckDuck-ed up the words “Epigenetics” and “Dutch Famine 1944” and “Holocaust victims.”. I think I now see where you get your attachment to the idea.
I also watched some short videos on the subject and am in the middle of a Neil DeGrasse Tyson video on the subject of Epigenetic Trauma.
Without meaning to drag up any pain you may have,…[Read more]

Well well well another disasterous year for Ken Ham (the scam) and his Ark Encounter.
in july, it finished its 9th year and racked up 677K visitors, making it its 7th highest since opening.
Original estimates were 1.4M its first year and a modest 4% increase every year, but in reality it never even hit a million, and its 677K number isnt even…[Read more]

The Homo erectus cooperative breeding was the culmination of a long process of peeling un-weaned infants away from their mothers, that might have taken 2-4 million years. Great ape mothers do not like to give up their babies to anyone else. It makes sense that the first people whom mothers trusted, was their own mothers, the grandmothers…

Enco, I can’t sign on to your read of Lamarck. I see him as a rationalist who sought to explain the natural world.
You just did sign on, because that and more is exactly what I said of Lamarck. But Rationalists can make mistakes as well, zas long as Reason is free to correct them, which Reason has.

I am pretty sure the kneejerk response is gonna be far right Christians are a legit threat of achieving power. Islam is a fringe fad among far left and young.

One more example that being an atheist in and of itself is no assurance of intelligence.

Acquired characteristics passed on to offspring that are the stuff of change in that era is impressive. And while he did not know the mechanism in terms of the biology he was proposing evolution. And we are learning that the unknown…[Read more]

Fellow Unbelievers:
If only the Nazis had followed the ways of Dr. Leopold Z. They would either be sleepin’ wit’ da fishies Luca Brasi-style (or just Darwinian L.U.C.A.-style,) or just on a possibility, the Nazis would turn into giant Lox Nova Salmon or Gefilte:

One thing I hope we all can agree on is that reality is a long way from epigenetic real-time cross-species metamorphosis communicated by casual contact. In other words, there is no such thing as a “Wur-wilf” -er- Werewolf:

Sunday School 3 days, 16 hours agoHemant Mehta of the Friendly Atheist Channel has it right about which religion is the bigger threat to freedom in the U.S.A., but not which one is the biggest threat globally.
