    It’s insulting. And even more so because it’s coming from two really rich white men who have never had a struggle in their life. Never had to worry about being homeless or not having food. They don’t need to pray to God because they have someone to wipe their ass and kiss their feet. But they think they’re better than other people while being totally arrogant. Fuck them.

    It was God that stopped me from killing myself when I was 11 and I’m sure neither of them had ever been so desperate…Yet they want to stand up there like they have some kind of authority? Fuck them. They make their living by putting people already on the edge over the deep end.

    They want to talk about how God is a delusion (a term borrowed from psychology) and talk about people who believe in God as mentally ill not really understanding what that does to people who actually are.

    Neither one of them is a psychologist and yet they want to say religious people are insane? Fuck them

    Man you are angry!

    It is not fair to say they never had a struggle.  Take Bertrand Russell.  He grew up in a well to do family but had plenty of angst. Hitchens got cancer. Life aint easy.  Does anybody get out of this mess unscathed?

    But in fairness t0 you i think there is a tendency of super smart people to be a little arrogant.  But atheists for most part are literally incapable of believing in god. It is not a function of their station in life.

    I also think they help bring out apostasy in some people who hear and read em.  In my experience former theists are mostly relieved to leave religion in rear view mirror.  Your experience was different.  I am willing to bet it is mostly a liberating experience which is weird to conceive since the realization of no god comes with the acceptance of no after life.

    @jakelafort

    For months….no….years I listened to them in reverence as though they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. I WAS an atheist only to realize that it made me miserable. I could not talk to anyone about it besides the people here. I was isolated. It made me question the validity of atheism.

    I don’t know why I am so angry lately. I have a few ideas…I think I know why, maybe. But it’s too personal to tell anyone so it just keeps building up.

    You seem resilient. You have been despondent on other occasions and bounced back.

    Oh and as an aside i agree with Strega about Vermont. If you  are going to move some place in usa it is a fantastic state.

    When you pull a rubber band too many times it eventually snaps. To be completely honest….I never used to be angry. Never. Now I’m broken and I don’t think I can be fixed. All the anger is coming out from all the shit I’ve put up with.

    I was going to go to California but now that’s off the table. I’m running out of options. I might have to.

    That is a good metaphor of a rubber band but fortunately it takes a lot of stretching before it snaps.

    I go to Vermont a few times a year and always love the visit. The air is better.  It is so fucking scenic. Mountains all over. Lots of tiny towns. Not too many people and the people seem friendly to me.  Not easy to get a job there though.  Aint much for industry and lots of people seem to start their own business.
