Robert i get those sentiments.
I keep thinking how emblematic of human futility is the politicization of covid. Was thinking that there is a new dynamic at work but upon further reflection maybe it is same old same enhanced and fueled by algorithms of social media.
On the one hand there is a perceived threat to the established order. History shows that power is not ceded without a fight. Nor are ‘revolutionaries’ discouraged easily. Where the opposing sides are not fighting physically they fight on an ideological level. Ideology is the dog walking the human. Countless religious and political ideological fights have seen countless casualties. Threat to social order is playing out ideologically.
If ya think about the plague in the middle ages it had a big time ideological component. Jews were blamed. As the plague spread and even before the plague arrived word was out that it was coming and the Jews had poisoned the wells. Just like today there was nothing substantiating the beliefs. But those ideological beliefs resulted in burning and murdering thousands of Jews.
It is so frustrating to think that we have not advanced as a civilization. Will there be millions upon millions of deaths from covid and utter intransigence from the antivaxxers and right wing republicans? Will the evidence cause any change of heart? Will politicians who are pandering alter their message?
