    Unseen and Reg,

Meh!  You don’t need McPaper to break the God delusion.  If anything, it might replace old delusions with new ones.

    Reg,

Other Forums to avoid are any remaining manifestations of FrugalSquirrels.com and SurvivalistBoards.com.

Frugal Squirrels was a Christian-owned Survivalist Site who I recall just ruthlessly milked and exploited the wise and well-read content of an Atheist member M-1 Garand, who then he got unceremoniously booted off.  This was followed a few years later by anyone who opposed the owner’s religious and political views.  For all the piety of this Site, their logo was a male squirrel with oversized bouncing gonads.

    🐿🌰🌰

SurvivalistBoards.com had some technically fascinating posts, but also a smorgasboard of fanatics of many stripes and shades who got into the latest predictions about the Second Coming, Tbe Mayan 2012 Apocalypse That Wasn’t, secession, Balkanization, race war, and even where to loot when the Shit Hits The Fan (SHTF) and the culinary delicacy of ‘long pork.’  Yikes! 😱🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️

I thought: “There are enough real threats out there in the world without throwing in phony ones or creating new ones!  And I want to survive and thrive as Man, The Rational Animal, not as a parasite or a Zombie!”

So I quit these Forums, although SurvivalistBoards.com still retains all login information and all content contributed.  It’s the “Hotel California” of data, where “You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.” 🌵🔒

There are many better sources of information about Survivalism and Disaster Preparedness in books, technical blogs, and videos, without getting in the middle of crazy Forum drama and trauma and without recourse to Supernaturalism and irrationality.

Indeed, there’s no other way to survive, since the Natural Universe is all there is and Reason is the only way to understand it.

We say that about the Catholic Church and the guilt syndrome many ex-Catholics complain about. I tell them to indulge in a long weekend of depravity and get over it.

I often wonder why so many Christians want to survive the “End Times”. I thought the return of Jesus was No. 1 on their wish list. He better not come back during one of my long weekend. Wednesdays are good with me.

Maybe the fundamental Christians joined Squirrels as they as all nucking futs.

    Reg,

I always wondered why Christians in particular were attracted to Survivalism and Disaster Preparedness because, if “This world is not their home” and they are “Just Passing Through,” if they say we should “consider the lillies,” then why should they as God-entrusting Christians be concerned about securing water, food, fuel, shelter, and weaponry?  Doesn’t “He (God) know you have need of these things?” (See Luke 12:22-32.)

Survivalism and Disaster Preparedness are for living on Earth above all.  Concern for an alleged hereafter and trust in a God for provisions and security just runs so contradictory to that.

    Fellow Unbelievers,

Speaking of warped priorities, while believers in the State Government of Texas are preoccupied with what amounts to Dane-Geld for embryos and the content of social media, here is what one believer did to viable, living human beings in 4-dimensional reality (Warning: Graphic, violent, disturbing content, best saved for daytime):

    Yeah man, Enco.

It is really warped. Social media content? How worthless is that concern? What is on social media even if it is directed by algorithms to easily manipulated and credulous morons is meaningless. Where it goes from there is determined by the free market of ideas.

The paramount concern, really the only concern, is the elevation of cherished principles. Outcomes be damned. Free speech bitch!

Creating a law that oliges massive social media sites to adjust their algorythms so that they do NOT push dangerous and harmful misinformation in people’s faces is NOT an attack on free speech. It is absolutely beyond my comprehension why governments aren’t already doing this. Every day they let this keep happening will = many many more days of damage control. Just look at the mountain of insanity that is happening over vaccinations in North America for example, and a huge part of that are completely immoral policies by social media (or a lack of them) and governments completely disinterested in protecting their citizens. Vaccinations, global warming, election meddling, extremely harmful untrue bigoted claims etc. Social media is a fucking plague and its benefits are completely outweighed by the high costs.

    Jake,

I’m very sure the back story of this hideous serial murderer involves a whole lot more than social media.  The media mentioned in the news story was paper literature and notebooks.

You may want to give this article below a very good read.   The complaints about New Media have been around long before computer algorithms and were directed against Stan Lee’s Comics, Marconi’s radio, Edison’s phongraph, Gutenberg’s moveable type printing press, even the written word itself!

People Have Been Panicking About New Media Since Before The Printing Press

You may also want to take note of some of the names involved in the moral panic over social media.  The likes of Religious Right-Winger Josh Hawley want it regulated too or even seized and turned into a public utility so that it’s content reflects only what they desire. Will you two be linking arms or mud-wrestling to see who gets to be “Reality Czar?”

And the evidence cited by those who want to seize this kind of control is circumstantial at best and a chimera at worse, and no problem that can’t he solved by sane parental guidance for youths and self-discipline for adults.  T’was ever thus.

    Enco,

You aint even making sense with priorities of Texans in their conservative gov and what one believer did. It just looks to me like you wanted to give a gratuitous shot to your pet bugaboo of your cherished free speech/free market principles. Is anyone asserting that the psychopath was acting as a result of social media?

Do your various forms of speech have been pondered and thought dangerous so this new form of speech is same old same make sense? Should we assume that civilization is still around even after rocks, bows and arrows, clubs, knives, samurai swords, blunderbuss, riffle, bazooka, cannon, so it is safe from hydrogen bomb, atomic bomb, nuclear..? Or is each entity separate and require new assessment-the former being no assurance of the safety of the latter?

And btw if the government of Germany had censored hate speech a different result may have occurred.

You continue to be blinded by your ideology in much the same way as any religious freak is. It is so clear that the current dynamic in social media is a big time threat.

Thanks Robert – that Jim Bakker video above is very funny.

    “It’s restaurant quality food”

“Totally gourmet …..the highest class of food you can get is in that bucket”.

“What you gonna do with the doo-doo”

And then some brutal “music” to dine to.

    Reg,

Real preppers cook and dine way better than the Jim Bakker crowd.  I just finished canning 5 quarts of salsa using the Mrs. Wages recipe and 5 pints of apple butter from cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar off the shelf.

Next payday, I’ll be making some Kosher Dill Pickles (minus the religious mumbling) and maybe some pickled peppers of Peter Piper fame, though probably not a full peck.

Yep, it’ll be some fine eating in these “interesting times.”

    Jake,

Someone engaging in human sacrifice in the name of religion in the U.S.A. in 2021 warrants far more concern than policy or content on social media, pro- or con-.

No, Enco, an isolated incident in which he ate her liver with fava beans and a good chianti is not more than a few atoms in a bucket of yak shit in relation to the potential for harm from social media.

I imagine many old posts on a survivalist site age about as well as a rusty can of chili. I bet they pulled their investments (and bought gold) when Obama got elected and well they missed ‘the greatest bull run’ while expecting the obvious end-o-times. Ironically it is people of their ilk, who have given up on democracy that are the biggest threat. Do they yearn for the end of democratic society in favor of chaos? I wonder.
