Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorThanks to the Supreme Court, your taxes now fund Religious Indoctrination at discriminatory Fundamentalist Christian Schools.
Police in Australia arrest 12 members of religious group over death of eight-year-old girl.
In Connecticut families seek exoneration of relatives convicted of Witchcraft during 1600s. That headline should read “seek an apology for the murder of relatives by Christians”.
What would you do if you got into a cab driven by this liar for Jesus? I will write my story later. I guess I am just not steeped in the rhythm or the liturgy of the church.
Census 2021 data shows Australians are less religious and more culturally diverse than ever.
The overturning of Roe is just the latest consequence of Christian domination of America. The idea that life begins at conception is a religious belief and not a scientific fact. News outlets have labeled the current court ‘pro-religion’ but OK, it’s more complicated than that.
On the workplace harassment of atheists.
I hate filling out questionnaires but I will do this one later.

_Robert_ParticipantWorld of Woo: Anti-GMO opinions debunked.
Yeah, don’t care about Non-GMO. The much bigger concern is the industrial monoculture methods used to grow almost all of our plant foods. For example, Florida’s orange production has been decimated and the world’s banana crop is at risk because of such practices.
I have been slowly establishing a perennial food forest around our property. Some days almost all of our chow is home grown but every single day we do get something to eat from our dirt.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorFlorida’s orange production has been decimated – When I used to drive into from Atlanta to Florida one of our “pit stops” was just over the border at a tourist info location. First thing was to go get a glass of free orange juice. A few years ago this came to an end and I never knew why. Maybe that is why?
Orange Juice really took off after a very successful marketing campaign to get rid of the glut of over-production before it became rotten. OJ, the “ups and downs” would make for an interesting thesis for a marketing grad.

“Citrus greening” is some sort of disease that’s just wiping out production. If you plant the same cultivar 6 feet apart for miles of rows and then kill all the life in the soil with chemicals, what the hell do you expect will happen? It’s the same with so much of our food and when climate changes weaken the plants, I expect this to occur over and over.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorI had not realized it was that bad! it will be very difficult to recover from as the sudden introduction of new species anywhere seldom gives native species time to evolve.

TheEncogitationerParticipantReg,
There’s something kind of incomplete about the idea of exoneration of victims of Witchcraft persecution. The term “exoneration” seems to imply that Witchcraft actually exists and is still an offense.
It would be more accurate and just for the Government of Connecticut to officially proclaim: “These people were arrested, tried in mock trials, tortured, and murdered by Government for acts that do not violate Life, Liberty, or Property of others and the gravament of which acts do not actually exist. Government fucked up big, we vow never to do it again, and we will review our entire body of laws and judicial proceedings and abolish any that may do the same atrocities as were done here.”
July 10, 2022 at 6:16 pm #43644
Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorYes, ‘Exonerate’ makes it sounds like they were guilty in the first place. It shows that they don’t understand the problem. Sounds very much like the Vatican being sorry for the pain the victims had to endure rather than apologizing for the crimes the church committed against them.
You cannot absolve or exonerate people for not committing a crime. Witches never existed, so the religious, beholden to their Biblical Delusion of not suffering a witch to live, were happy to allow women to be burnt to death. Since 2001 over 600 “witches” have been murdered in India.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModerator@PopeBeanie – Sorry, I just noticed you have setup a topic for the JWST. Roll on Tuesday!

PopeBeanieModeratorReg, I knew that you might do the same, and was thinking this topic deserves major coverage on more than one front. Adding a link back to here from the Astronomy group now, which was already on my mind.
How exciting!

Belle RoseParticipantI’m wondering if anyone here has watched “The Unexplained” series on Netflix with William Shattner hosting – it’s very interesting and thought provoking about a lot of different topics like “evil places,” ghosts, vampires, all kinds of different stuff…I’m wondering if you’ve seen it what you think? Did it change your perspective? Especially for example the one about “evil places,” …..

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorHi Belle Rose. What I find annoying about these History Channel type episodes is that one week they might investigate events worthy of research, such as the Great Dying which was an extinction event only to follow it the next week with one asking what if the Large Hadron Collider created a Black Hole here on Earth. This is then followed up with an “investigation” in the secrets of the immortals, “from an historic perspective”. This is utter bullshit. Just like “Ghost Hunters” or that terrible book series “The Secret”.
So, while there are some episodes worth watching there are too many full of Woo that I would be unable to suffer through. “Evil” places are just spaces that humans just attribute “evil” to. Same goes for “holy” sites.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorI was texting a client last week and typed “I will update you in 30 minutes”. My spell checker sent her a message to say that “I will opiate you in 30 minutes”. This was for a hospital contract! I got it though 🙂

I kind of prefer videos that provide explanations rather than the old “Could it be (something highly unlikely)?”-type that asks more questions than it answers. And, yes, I did give “Evil Places” a little time until it was clear it was going to be in that kind that leaves one with more questions than answers.
