I cannot figure out how some voters are still undecided. How is the difference in choice not obvious to them?
I saw a poll (CNN? can’t remember) that covered that question. About half of the undecideds answered that they were undecided because, while everybody knows Trump, they didn’t feel familiar enough with Harris…[Read more]

I cannot figure out how some voters are still undecided. How is the difference in choice not obvious to them? They are waiting upon the finer details of certain policies or something?
Gee….I know one is a conspiracy riddled bats in his head liar and the other is an educated person with a calm and logical mind but first I would like to ask both…[Read more]

In the end, we can always commit suicide.
Whenever someone in a group setting asks about the purpose of life I always consider suggesting that we should all go outside now and commit suicide. Depending on the maturity of the company of course. When I get told “that is a horrible thing to suggest”, I ask, OK, tell me why we should not?

Funny thing is i saw firsthand that his base believes every single ridiculous lie. I guess that is consistent with his being a cult leader. Nodody is home. It’s the human comedy and the march of folly so kick back with popcorn to get your jollies.

I doubt today’s analytical philosophers are so rigid as if they walk around thinking like Spock or something.
Maybe they would confuse Spock by asking him what he means exactly by the term “live long” and if he could outline his definition of “prosper” in terms of the cultural differences between them and the Klingons?
Captain, its the Engines h…[Read more]

While I regard myself as a linguistic philosopher (and am thus more closely allied to the Northern/British analysts), I also find a lot of ethical truth in Sartre’s existentialism.
Some key concepts.
Existence precedes essence: The meaning of a life is only established when all is said and done. It is like a painting which isn’t finished until…[Read more]

It seems like a difference between North and South Europeans – between Protestant, reserved, logical “Nords” and Catholic, florid, demonstrative, warm Latins*.
* as we Nords would see it – excitable.

Continental vs Analytic Philosophy: Definitions & Differences.
This is very interesting. Continental philosophy seems very, well, foreign, until I remember that punk “philosophy” was influenced by the Situationists who were of the French school. I think the thrust of their argument was that we…

Reg, i am not sure how significant debates are. I mean they seem to move polls a little bit after the fact and yet the prognosticator of presidential elections does not have that as a significant factor.
Also it seems to me that most voters are going to be ideologically driven and therefore not swayed by either candidate no matter how they do.…[Read more]

All that, and one has to make a binary choice in November.
I still fear that Trump can win. If Harris can keep the honeymoon going and also let the voters hear more of her actual policies, without the rhetoric, then I think she will have a much better chance. If Trump can’t keep himself in check during the debate and Harris displays a diplomat…[Read more]

The complexities of one’s groups come to the fore at election time. One might have to weigh how one feels about the current administration’s policies on Israel’s handling of Hamas vs. their handling of Russia vs. Ukraine vs. China’s wanting hegemony over East Asian trade routes, but then want to rein in military spending in order to spend more on…[Read more]

What is the logic of in-group bias?
The logic of in-group bias is that I depend on all my group-members to help me live. I don’t depend on out-group members, who may well be competitors.
Groups are nested and intersecting. So, like you say, there are circles of concern and ever-larger groups that I belong to. We can belong to ma…[Read more]

Yeah Reg,
There is no way to tell how badly religion damages people’s lives by priming them to believe in nonsense. To me they sound insane at times.
