Then again there was the unnamed disciple whom Jesus loved, who laid his head on Jesus’s breast. What was that all about?
Reading Plato’s Symposium, it’s clear homosexuality was a norm in the Greco-Roman world. When Rome adopted Christianity to save its crumbling empire in the fourth century the Greeks posed a problem. How could they get peopl…[Read more]

I saw a man in drag wearing a t-shirt that read, “Jesus Hates Me.” I was a Christian at the time, so naturally I said “No, he doesn’t.” Yet, how could I say that with any conviction when the Church was doing everything in its power to convince gay people that Jesus does hate them?
The crazy truth is that this inimical attitude is actually…[Read more]

I lean Toward the multiverse, or rather the omniverse. Why should there be just one universe? Space is infinite. If there were a million universes, each one a billion times bigger than out own, there would still be the same amount of empty space outside. So, suppose there is no outside? Suppose the universe is an infinite number of galaxies?

Atheism and Spirituality 3 years, 2 months agoAn atheist is a person who doesn’t believe in God. Anything else a person may or may not believe in is ancillary to the term atheist. So, yes, an atheist can still be spiritual. We have unanswered questions but are not satisfied with religions unquestioned answers.
I have had experiences in my life that I cannot honestly dismiss as co…[Read more]

That would be kewl—new gods. Let the gods of the bible go the way of Zeus and Osiris.
Question: if the gods of the bible are invincible, why were they intimidated by a bunch of prehistoric humans building a tower to heaven? What did he think they would do to him once they got there? They wouldn’t have been able to breathe, but they could sti…[Read more]

I’m not a scientist, but I have some ideas about the universe that I’d like to share just to see if it makes sense to anyone besides myself.
For some time now, theists have argued that the universe is an effect, and all effects must have a cause. Therefore, God had to be that cause.
This argument falls apart because the universe doe…[Read more]

rhonjon replied to the topic Are there strange things happening lately? in the forum Science 3 years, 2 months ago
Where geological time is concerned, the mills of the gods grind extremely slowly. As humans, we don’t live long enough to discern patterns that last for billions of years.so what may seem strange to us is just part of the cycle.
If God wanted us to see signs of the end times, why doesn’t the bible mention things that weren’t happening 2 thou…[Read more]

I’ve read Dawkins, Hitchins, Sagan, Hawkins, Jerry Coyne, Bart Ehrman, et al. But all of them put together couldn’t do as good a job as the bible in convincing me that Christianity is crap.
Every time I read the bible I find an absurdity. I live in the buckle of the bible belt, so I need a reminder now and then for why I left the church. Her…[Read more]

As bad as the gods of the Old Testament are, the god of the New Testament is worse. Nobody goes to hell in the Old Testament. In fact, the whole idea of original sin begam with Paul. As I said, if I hadn’t read the bible. . . it’s funny but people who don’t believe the bible know a lot more about it than those that do believe.

Greetings,
At age 15, I joined a word of faith church pastored by a well-known televangelist. Because of my visual and hearing impairments, everyone was so excited and sure they would see God perform a wondrous healing miracle. Of course, as time went on, my impairments got worse, and they began to wonder what I was doing to hinder my faith. even…[Read more]
